Went via Gundersheim and Selzen but couldn't didn't find anywhere we liked so as the weather was good we returned to lovely Weingut Gehring on the hill of love looking towards the vineyards, turms (stone towers) and the Rhine. Set ourselves up for 3 days R&R. Next day walked to the 3 turms, could see across to Mainz and Frankfurt, on the outskirts of the town there was an old man with a walking frame who could not open the gate to his Weingut, I got him in and Lesley was sure he said come and sample my wine, but I think it was wishful thinking. We stopped in Nierstein old square for cafe and kucken did a little shopping and walked back for a relaxing afternoon in the sun. That evening we watched a lightning storm pass around us and luckily we missed out on the rain. The following day was bright and sunny, we walked through the vines saw a mother deer with her fawn (Bella was fascinated by them) we walked along the Rhine for a while then found the quaintest Weingut called the Glockenspiel and bought a couple of bottles. Back at base I decided to do a wine tasting and Lesley foolishly let me go alone... I have to say their generosity was boundless, they used a clever marketing ploy of letting me help myself...Little did they know! After sampling 8 wines I got back to the van and Lesley asked if I'd bought any, I said they were bringing it on a handtruck. Ooohps.
