24 hours in Singapore started with some pressurised teamwork at the automatic train ticket machine but soon we had navigated through the sweltering humidity to the bliss hotel in Chinatown. Apparently a major feature of 'bliss' is having the shower cubicle and toilet in a glass cube next the the bed...a novel concept! The main event was mum and dad treating us to high tea at raffles. Sadly I forgot my Panama hat but we both tried to blend in to the colonial settings and enjoyed an eclectic but luxurious selection of iced tea, champagne, cakes, croque Monsieur and dim sum! A humid wander across the bay, avoiding all jewellery, handbag and perfume shops, took us via the bustling old food market to 1-altitude, the worlds highest roof top bar and the view from 64 floors up was incredible. Over a Singapore sling we watched Singapore light up as the sun went down in spectacular style. As it is Chinese New Year tomorrow we looked down on a monumental firework display before finally being driven back into the escalator as the karaoke style band kicked on with their second set!
We wandered back to the hotel via Chinatown which was an amazing experience, though some of the stalls were selling some very suspicious deep fried 'items', and finally back to the sanctuary of the air conditioned hotel room.
Jet lag messed with my sleep patterns but it did allow me a surreal morning jog around Singapore bay as the city came to life. One very cold shower later and we're back in the taxi to the airport and en route to Auckland, safe in the knowledge that mark has met up with Sanjay and our trusty camper is ready to go!!!

Dave Trusty and camper van are not words necessarily to be used in the same sentence... Rusty however...Bon Voyage!
