The 230 alarm was soon silenced and before long we were navigating around Stone Town on our way to the airport. Fortunately it was much more civilised than Kigoma and we ate our packed breakfast of fruit whilst awaiting the arrival of the Oman air flight.
The first leg was comfortable enough though Omani hospitality was akin to Tanzanian indifference. I would thoroughly recommend a transit in Oman if you like sand, heat exhaustion and waiting in a room with no facilities for over an hour before boarding. Fortunately Bob had been reunited with Costa for the first time in 5 months and was floating contentedly along in a mocha and blueberry muffin induced stupor.
We finally arrived at Heathrow to be greeted by Chris sporting a huge smile and a very amusing signboard. We wheeled our trolley back through into the comfortably fresh English air and it appeared that our ride home was a sleek flagship jaguar. With the countryside flying by and a very chatty chauffer we settled back in splendid luxury and reflected on what an incredible 5 months it had been. It was the end of a very happy stage of our lives but there was a lot more excitement to get ready for!
