I woke up with that post rugby match feeling, my limbs, back and neck all complaining of the hammering they had received the day before from the wake boarding. I rolled over groaning, performing a mental pre-flight check for my body and was entertained for Bob to report that she was in the same situation! Sam had gone to work so we took a morning stroll to the park in the centre of the racecourse before heading into town for breakfast and to find Bob an outfit for racing. The shopping mall was as confusing as last time but overrun with girls wanting to try on armfuls of clothes meaning that the queues for the changing rooms stretched around most of the store. Exasperated but with a suitable skirt purchased we returned to the flat where Sam had finished his duties and we caught our breath before heading out to Tai Po where we eventually found the harbourside park and climbed to the top of the viewing tower to enjoy the view with our icecreams. We sped through the anti-climax that was the insect house, which contained only plastic insects and then met with Vanessa, one of Sam's Hong Kongese colleagues who took us to the wet market for supper.
We ate at an incredible little restaurant in the food hall on plastic chairs and a disposable tablecloth which as soon littered with clam shells, and the debris associated with feasting on deep fried (whole) pigeon, sweet and sour ribs, steaming pak choi, calamari, dehydrated whitebait and many many other exciting dishes. The experience and atmosphere was incredible as we paid the clerk and headed down to the wet market to purchase fruit before following our noses down another level to wander around the fishmongers. It was a sensory overload as there was displayed every single shape and size of aquatic creature imaginable including turtles, angel fish and sea cucumbers to name but a few. The smell soon overpowered us and we escaped onto the bustling street, heading into Chinatown in search of pudding. We found a cafe who served us an array of sweet goods, but no coffee, much to Sam's disgust, before bidding farewell to Vanessa and heading islandside to catch up with Leah and some of her Swiss friends at a very pleasant waterside bar. After Sam (Sugary Pappa) had exhausted the Sheesha pipe we moved on and up to the next bar, ozone, which was 490m up in the air, overlooking the harbour, with ferraris, lambourghinis and a maclaren parked outside. The view was breathtaking and we treated ourselves to one drink at the very sophisticated cocktail bar, mingling with the upper echelons of Hong Kong before returning home when we realised it was 2am.
