Monday 6th October
Today we drove for around 6 hours and got caught in terential rain, however, by the time we had reached Sydney it was bright sunshine. We are staying at Lizette and Tonys (Michelle's Mum's cousin) in Ryde which is only 25mins away from the centre on the bus. They are all really friendly and it's nice to be staying in a family home after weeks in the van.
Tuesday 7th October
We made sure we did all the tourist attractions today and went straight to see the famous Sydney Opera House. It wasn't as white as it looks on the TV but was equally as impressive. We took about 100 pictures from lots of different angles and then headed to the Harbour Bridge. We walked the length of the bridge and again took lots of pictures. Seeing the landmarks we are so used to seeing on TV made us realise just how far we are away from home. This evening, Tony took us out in the car to see Sydney by night. It looked really good lit up and we drove around to look at the opera house, bridge and Luna Park.
Wednesday 8th October
We got a pass today which allows us to go on a tour of the opera house, go up to a lookout on the harbour bridge, go up the centre point tower, go on a crusise and visit the aquarium (ythe Sydney five in one). Today we went on the tour around the opera house which was actually really interesting...did you know that the guy who designed the opera house won a competition that was set up to design an opera house, it took so long to build that they stopped paying him and said he could just supervise the project. He quit the project and has never been back to Australia to see his finished building. After this we went up the up centrepoint tower which gave us views over the city and also went on a simulator ride (which was a bit rubbish).
In the evening we went with Rebecca (Lizette's daughter) to The Ranch a bar/club about 15mins away from where they live. All the pubs and clubs here have gaming rooms which is strange - we dont know why anyone would play on them when the sign says you have less than 1 in a millions chance of winning the jackpot.
Thursday 9th October
We went on a harbour crusie today which took about an hour, after this we went up the lookout on the harbour bridge which gave us fantastic views over the city (much better than centrepoint).
Friday 10th October
We had to take our hirecar back today which we didnt do until late afternoon, however, once we had dropped the car off Tony took us to Bondi beach which was packed with surfers and Kings Cross to see the large flashing Coca-Cola sign. That evening Lizettes brother Eric came over with his wife and two children which was nice as the last time Michelle saw Eric she was about 5 so couldn't really remember him. He brought over some family pictures. There was a picture of Dawn which everyone thought was Michelle.
After Dinner Philip took us to Newtown for a night out - That's the good thing about knowing the locals, they can take us places we wouldnt have gone to otherwise.
Saturday 11th October
We went to the Aquarium at Darling Harbour today, we weren't bothered about the Aquarium as we had already been to one in Perth, but it was included in our pass so we went. It was really busy and we got annoyed at the 100s of people trying to take photos of the fish on camera phones! - they will never look good. Apart from that though it was a good Aquarium.
Sunday 12th October
Lizette and Tony took us to the Blue Mountains, which was really nice. We saw the Three Sisters and went on the steepest train in the world and took a cable car back up the mountain to look at the views.
Monday 13th October
Happy 18th Birthday Heather - Hope you have a great day. We did lots of organising today as we are going to New Zealand tomorrow. It has been so nice staying with Lizette and Tony and we appreciate them letting us stay :)
