We arrived in Las Vegas in the evening after a nine hour bus ride from Los Angeles. We checked into the Stratospherer hotel and were really impressed with our hotel room. It had a TV, a phone, an ensuite bathroom and we didn't even have to share it with strangers!
The first evening there we went for a meal in the hotel casino. We went to a cheesy American diner where the staff not only served you food they also sing to you while you ate.
On our first full day in Vegas we walked up the strip to see some of the famous casinos. It was very surreal - you could be in Venice one minute and Paris the next. It was also weird that people could drink walking down the street and that men were handing out cards advertising prostitutes (which they even tried to give to Michelle). We managed to see the fountain show outside the Bellagio, the pirate show at Treasure Island and the volcano show outside the Mirage, which were amazing.
On our second day we bought all day passes to the rides on the top of the Stratosphere (if you don't know what these are you should google them - they are terrifying!). Because we had a coupon to get buy one get one free on the ride tickets Danny had to get one too, even though he didn't want to go on any of the rides. We went on every single one during the day and then went on every single one again at night when the strip was all lit up. We even went on the front row of the one called X-Scream which hangs you off the edge of the building and drops you.
The next day we had splashed out and got helicopter tours to the grand canyon. Neither of us had ever been on a helicopter before and, because we were the lightest, we were allowed to sit in the front seats right next to the pilot. The views of the canyon were unbelievable! For dinner we landed at a ranch in Arizona where they gave us chicken (it felt good to not be eating fast food after two weeks of eating just that). Once it had gone dark we flew back and got some more amazing views of the Vegas strip lit up at night - such a shame our camera wasn't good enough to capture any of it.
On the last day we bought bus passes and went to an outlet mall. This turned out to be the biggest disappointment of Vegas - it was terrible, the shops were all rubbish. On the way back to the hotel though we did manage to see the 'Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas' sign and got off the bus to see the fountain show at the Bellagio again. That evening we got the bus to Freemont Street, which is where all the oldest casinos were built. We decided that, as it was our last night in Vegas, we ought to gamble a little. Michelle refused to gamble more than $10 though so she had to ask the cash desk to break a $20, where he checked her ID for about five minutes. We spent our money on the poker machines and were losing money but making it last, until with our very last dollar we got four of a kind and won $60!!
Vegas was really cool and we will definitely have to go back when we have more money.
