We arrived in LA after our pointless stopover in Auckland on the morning of the 22nd November. We decided to save ourselves the $40 of a taxi to our hotel and got on the free shuttle bus to the bus depot. Once there we tried to transfer to get the bus to Venicce beach. The only problem with this was that the buses don't give change and we only had $20 notes to pay for our 75c fare. This meant that we had to go to Burger King to have lunch to get some change (although two men did offer to give us $2 when they realised we had no change).
After our two buses and a 20 minute walk with our suitcases we arrived at The Venice Beach Cotel (we have no idea why it's called a Cotel) we went to sleep to get rid of our jet lag and woke up in the evening. We had a walk along the beach and saw some of the cool street performers (one guy summersalted over six children and one man in one go), but soon we got sick of being asked for change so people could buy weed so we went back to bed.
The next morning we walked along the beach to Santa Monica pier in the sunshne. It wasn't long though before Michelle got the urge to shop so, after a pancake breakfast, we ended up on the main shopping street of Santa Monica. Soon Danny got fed up though and convinced Michelle to go to the cinema.
The next day we moved from our Cotel on Venice beach to a hostel in Hollywood. This was the last hostel we would ever stay in!! Once there we dropped our bags off and went for a walk along the Walk of Fame and saw the famous Chineese theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. The first thing that struck us about Hollywood was that it was quite run down and there were lots of homeless people, we both assumed that Hollywood would be glamorous. That night we booked ourselves onto a limo tour of LA which had unlimited beer and champagne. We managed to get our picture taken with Russel Brand at the grove, he was actually really friendly, maybe because we didn't ask him about the trouble he'd had with the BBC.
Over the next few days we did all the touristy stuff in LA like seeing where all the famous people live in Beverly Hills and the hotel where the film 'One Night in Paris' was recorded. We also went window shopping on Rodeo Drive and walked past Jennifer Love-Hewitt. We walked all the way to the Hollywood sign and were too tired after walking up the hills to be that impressed with it.
Overall our time in LA was really fun, although we weren't sorry to say goodbye to our last dorm room and check into a hotel in Las Vegas!
