Hi guys!
I have certainly had the most random few days of my life this week! Been in Bangkok for 3 days now and have seen every aspect of Bangkok life I think possible. The day I arrived was a complete right-off as I was so tired from the flights, they were both really bumpy so couldnt sleep, was however sat next to a cute guy from Brisbane so that was a bonus, if you cant sleep, talk.... which you all know I'm pretty good at!
Day two started out late, I had been up most of the night worrying about not meeting people... how wrong I was proved to be. Once I was up and had eaten I went to do a bit of shopping but got kinda side-tracked. Two guys and a girl asked me for directions to the Grand Palace, I had no idea so we decided to work it out together. We walked for miles only to get there and find out it was shut, so instead we spent the afternoon walking around the city exploring its Budda's (Reclining and Sittig Budda - both amazing) and the city markets. It was pretty late by the time we had finished... more like it got dark so we decided to stop walking around the city! There was some sort of Thai festival going on at the Giant Swing, so we had a look around, there was a group of young lads teaching themselves breakdancing... got some photos, they were pretty good! The strangest thing had to be the really young girls dressed up with loads of make up on dancing on stage... like a beauty pagent I suppose. Suchi, Mike and Andy invited me out to dinner with them and their friends (8 in total) so we went out to China Town, where the specaility is Shark Fin... needless to say I didn't have that! After the meal we went to see some traditional (probably the wrong word to use!!!) Thai Ping Pong.... if you catch my drift!
Day Three I spent sight seeing with the people I had met the day before, we went to the Grand Palace, Longtail Boat along the river to a Crocodile & Snake Farm (dont ask, it was horrible the animals where treated so bad, they even had a tiger there!). We had made good friends with a tuc tuc driver by this point and he was taking us everywhere we wanted to go for 10Bhat each (less than 5p)... and we didnt even have to go see his cousins factory! The trip along the river was amazing, we really got to see how real Thai's live. The shanty towns at the side of the river, wooden shacks on stilts, next door to beautiful temples. We also came across a floating market, the lady's trying to sell us cheap tourist rubbish, but she was so nice and really made me laugh, the guys ended up buying a Thai hat from her! The kids were playing about in the river and all waved as we went passed, i've got some really good photos of them splashing around showing off. We then arrived at the Crocodile Farm, which consisted of - Tiger locked in a tiny cage, A black bear again in a tiny cage, monkeys on ropes tied to benches, amazon parrots and macaws that had bitten out most of their feathers in distress. Hence I say dont ask!
The Grand Palace and Emerald Budda was pretty special too, got some great photos, i'll try and upload them before I leave Bangkok. Last night we went to the Suan Lam Night Bazaar .... oh my god what a shoppers heaven! I managed to restrain myself as I know that I have no room in my backpack left.... but the girls bought loads, all for less than 10pounds (no pound symbol on the computer I'm using)! It is so cheap here and the stuff is really good quality... Linz you so should have come out with me, just for the shopping alone, you could fill a whole boutique the size of heavenly with clothes, shoes and jewellery for less than 1000pounds!!!
Which brings me up to today... sorry that this blog has been so informative rather than funny stories, need to get into the swing of writing these!
I'm now off to do some chilling out by the pool. Off on my Intrepid trip tomorrow... to meet new people, ride elephants, visit the bridge over the river kwai and of course visit the beaches.
Love to you all!
