Day 23 - Friday 17 August (continued)
Cath and I jumped in a cab to our hostel, Hangout @ Mt.Emily. It was everything we hoped it was, clean, really modern and close to town. Excellant common rooms, free internet and a roof terrace overlooking Singapore.
Chcek-in was pretty hectic, Guna the reception was having a pretty hard day by the look of it, so Cath and I checked ourseleves in.... Went straight out for a beer at a cute italian down the road. Spent whole night catching up on what we'd both been up to for the past month!
First impressions of Singapore - very clean city but have yet to see any soul!
Day 24 - Saturday 18th August
Packed our stuff early, our room mates were coming in at all times in the morning, there was apparantly a big ministry gig last night! But it meant that neither Cath or I got much sleep. The hostel had a left luggage so we both left a bag full of stuff not required in Borneo, at Hangout. Got a taxi to the airport and collected our tickets and checked in. Finally posted my Thailand postcards... with Singapore stamps on them! Had really nice b'fast at Starbucks... mmmm muffins! But I lost my departure card.... so when we went through security I had to go to a separate bit and explain that I'd lost it and hope that they would re-issue it! Had to answer lots of questions and fill in some forms then they gave me a new one.... thank god! Our plane was on teh small side and there was no more than 50 people on it.... which meant that we had 3 seats each! So we spread out and slept.
After Borneo:
Day 34 - Tuesday 28th August
Arrived back in Singapore later than expected after the technical dificulties on the flight. Took cab to Hangout and dropped of our bags (couldn't check-in as it was too early), and went off exploring Singapore.... ended up spending the morning shopping though... it always seems to happen! After we checked in (private room with ensuite - we treated ourseleves after Borneo!) we had a nap and sorted out our stuff (from left luggage).
Had dinner at Chimneys, a really cute little place near Raffles Hotel. There were loads of restaurants there, all with offers on, so we ate at the one with the best offers on wine! Gatsby wine bar. Mange to go through a bottle rather quickly, and the time just flew by! By the time we left there it was 11pm so we thought we'd better get to Raffles quickly!
Ordered a Singapore sling at Raffles and sat down to drink it when in walked a group of cute guys, who we later found out were F18 pilots (Navy). We chatted for couple of hours until they closed the bar.....
Day 35 - Wednesday 29th August
Chceked out and spent the afternoon site seeing. Nearly missed my flight.... but thanks to Larry, our taxi driver, who put his foot down, I just made it.... last to check-in! There were no window or isle seats left which was annoying. Had to send more stuff home from Singapore, which took ages.... damn women in the post office didn't like me! I had to run through security (this time I hadn't lost my card) and departures, Cath came down to the gate and waved me off as her flight wasn't for another 2 hours.
Bored the plane and there was no one sat in the window seat next to me... so as soon as they closed the doors I moved to it and had a spare seat next to me! Was great... only spare seat on the plane the stewardess said... jackpot!
That was Singapore! Liked it but would like to go back and spend more time there!
