What a gorgeous day for starting out on our Western Us tour. The plan--wake up at 6 am, continental breakfast complete with waffles and passo-guavo juice and off for Wal-Mart to stock up on drinks, cooler and snacks.
Whoops! The cooler tipped over - ice all over the floor. In an effort to make a quick stop, made a left hand turn and got stopped by police. Just a warning to watch the signs.
Now 4.5 hours to Bryce Natl Park. Or so out trip tik thought. Took us a lot longer. Made it there by 3:30 pm I think. A stop at beautiful Red Rock canyon on the way--oh and a rest stop with petting zoo just before that. Timmy and I enjoyed feeding the donkeys there with our free popcorn from JR 's rest stop.
Once we bought our yearly park pass we proceeded to the visitors center where we watched a 20 min. Video on Bruce canyon. Then .. Off to explore. We were completely amazed by the brilliance of the canyon and its depth We stopped at several points and then went to Sunset point for a Ranger lad walk. We took the Navajo trail instead of following the group after hearing an intro about Bryce and that it is more of a pothole than a canyon. But canyon sounds better. Not a canyon since no water around. Only muddy waters when It rains hard. The canyon rock is continually changing due to the soft nature of the rock and the harsh winters and winds and weather.
Navajo trail has a ton of switchback trails over 1.3 miles. It was the most interesting awe inspiring amazing hike we have ever experienced. I was blown away by the awesome depth and steepness of the canyon. It took us about 1.5 hours to do with plenty of stops for photos and viewing our surroundings. I kept thinking of the hymn--He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock.....
We found a pizzeria by the Bryce lodge that was perfect for us for dinner. We were hopelessly dusty from our hike--especially Timmy-- who by the way was an amaZing hiker! Two large pizzas later and we were good to go for a few more point stops in the canyon. Sunset was coming and we wanted to see it. The best stop was at Bryce point and inspiration point just after sunset. Jeremiah climbed way up and what an amazing view was to be seen from there!
Now off to our next pit stop--BW East Zion Thunderbird lodge. I drove and we made it in 1.3 hours. Goodnight!
