Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun. Indeed. After spending two hours on the beach yesterday, wearing factor 30 sun cream, I learnt a valuable lesson - the sun in Miami is damn strong!! It didn't even feel that hot but every inch of my body that I didn't coat in lotion is red and burnt - I've got quite an amusing red strip across the middle of my face and down the side of my chest - looking good!! It could have been worse though and it's not too painful - we're being very careful to keep out of the sun today while we recover!! Also got bitten to b*****y by mosquitos on the first night - bites all over my feet and they're all swollen. I look like I've got bloody elephantitus, which is a good look for South Beach if you ask me. (I've since learnt about the wonders of mosquito spray.) I've just had some pancakes and maple syrup in an old American diner, which was incredibly cool, and now we're off for a stroll in the shade. Gearing up for a big weekend in Miami, which shouldn't be too shabby. I just know the ladies are gonna love the sunburnt Elephant Man look. Everyone here is beautiful, there's so much money in the place and the cars, clothes and the people just ooze wealth. It's pretty impressive, if a bit tacky. In other news, we're sharing a hostel with a middle-aged Christian from New York who still lives with his parents and has a Bible on his bed. Oh dear. The scary thing is, we'll probably end up drinking with him tonight. Just been catching up on the news back home - local council elections can still be interesting, even when you're in Miami! God I'm sad. Well, gotta run, we're about to sort out where to go next on the trip. Making it up as you go along is fun! Until next time, when I promise there will be some photos, farewell. PS was speaking to a barman last night from Miami, who said he'd give anything to move to WALES!! Maybe we could do a swap!
