Today we got on the 12 hour day bus to NaTrang! (supposed to be 10 hours but you know Asia) Armed with chocolate croissants and orange we ready to go :) it wasn't a coach as usual though just a little minivan, not the most comfortable!
Sat at the front as Ken told us its the most comfortable, that's why when Asians get let on first they fight for the front and then travellers usually get sent to the back! The front is only one seat and a pull out chair and I'm far too tall for it so Annie sat there for the first half!
When we stopped at a service station after a couple hours and we swapped I just ended up crawling to the front to sit with the driver! A lot more comfortable but god help me I don't like being able to see the way these maniacs drive! Vietnam is the most appalling driving I've ever seen!
One French-Asian woman sat on the bus behind us was carrying her chihuahua in her handbag, dressed up in a vest top! I've seen it all!
Midday we arrived at the stop off and got thrown off the bus and had to wait one hour (supposedly 20minutes!!) For the next bus journey! We had lunch in a cafeteria type restaurant with ready made meals, I had chicken breast with rice and spinach, tasted really good but, eating chicken off a bone is risky enough in England, let alone Asia! Tried a banana for the first time!!!
Well not really I tried them when I was younger and it tasted foul and never had one since but they were sat there with the meal so I thought if give it a go and it tasted beaut! So took it upon myself to steal Annie's too :) I love fruit here! And just food in general!
Anyway got on a proper coach from here at 1:30 with another pointless stop off and then arrived in Saigon at 7:30! This place is so hectic with so much going on! It's the Capital city in the South of Vietnam!
We got dropped off by the side of the road and followed one woman waiting with a sign for her guesthouse for $12! She took us down a long dark alley and the guesthouse was on half way down. It was someone's actual house! We had to walk through the living room to get to the stairs then go to the second floor to our room! Totes awks when all the family are sat on the floor eating their tea and we come perusing in with big fat rucksacks!
We went to eat straightaway and there's Two restaurants on the main street that wave and greet us and try there hardest to win us over so naturally, we went to the only one that made croissants!
Got a chocolate croissant AND spicy chicken and minced pork fried rice with vegetables!! I'm such a fatty boom-boom!! Never eaten so much in my life before Asia and yet still shedding the lb's!! The croissant was just bread shaped like a shell though with a bit of chocolate sauce, let down!!! :( the rice was tastyyyyyyy.... :D
Din came to meet us at the restaurant, he's only staying around the corner which is lucky! And he eats here everyday too! Caught up with him for awhile before planning the night and going to get ready!
We went to Papa café, a short taxi ride away, he drove us around twice having passed it the first time round and still tried ripping us off of our money, we didn't leave until we got half our money back! The one thing I don't like about Saigon is everyone tries to short change us so we have to be careful but, numbers really aren't my thing!! Wish me luck!
Papa café, supposed to be a cool hangout and busy every night was quiet and we never realised it was a karaoke bar! And they only serve beer, no spirits so we quickly had one and then left! Right outside is a huge lotus pond in the centre of the busy roundabout and it's home to a 20mtre high lotus statue, it's pretty! This area looks very French! Love it!
We then went to Godmother bar on the way back to our street, again nobody here very quiet! At least this place served spirits and cocktails! We asked the bar guy where was good to go, we planned on Apocalypse now, one of the biggest clubs in town, but he said it was very far away and not worth it for a Monday night! Apparently Fridays and Saturday's are usually a lot busier here Which is odd, seen as there's so many holiday makers and tourists go out every night on holiday!
So we went back to our street with the rest of all the tacky tourists and sat in Go2 bar on the corner. All lit up with rope lights hanging around the palm trees this place is full of westerners and not a typical Asian hang out that we want to see!!
We sat and smoked a shisha pipe in there with ANOTHER bloating, filling tasteless BEER! It's touristville here so the prices are higher! The strawberry shisha tasted good but left my throat really sore the next day as if I'd inhaled a load of rocks, not good!
After a few hours here chilling, we went home around 1:00am, knackered after travelling all day! Totes awks when we had to bang on the guesthouse door to get them to lift the shutter, and we're greeted by the father of the house wearing his white Y fronts! #dontknowwheretolook!
