We have had a wonderful three nights cruising around the Kornati Islands in northern Croatia (http://www.find-croatia.com/islands-croatia/kornati/) We were picked up from our hotel in Punta Skala, Zadar by our 33 foot motor cruiser and proceeded to explore some of the islands most of which are part of a National Park, so were protected and uninhabited. Plenty of time for jumping off the boat and swimming in the crystal clear warm water - temps were around mid 30's each day. The first night we stayed at a small island called Opat which had a great traditional Croatian restaurant by the harbour, serving wonderful fresh fish which you could choose for them to cook over the grill. After dinner I climbed to the top of the hill which had a fantastic view of the nearby islands.
The second day involved more swimming and dinner at a kornoba (cafe) in Veli Rat. On the last day we sailed to the island of Rab which was stunning - great harbour plus lots of old churches some of which dated to the 10th century. We explored the old city area and also the local markets and shops picking up some treats for the kids. We moored right on the promenade so was amongst all the activity on Saturday night. Our skipper recommended a local restaurant popular with the locals and the food was fantastic, Sarah having fresh scampi and more fresh fish for me along with another great Croatian wine (common theme here!)
The boat dropped us off in Pula today as the seas were rough and we had a transport to Porec then on to Buje to commence our multi activity tour tomorrow ( mountain biking ). We are relaxing in our guest house this afternoon as we still feel like we are on the boat!
