52 hours...
That is how long it took me to get from the hotel in Vancouver to my home in Denmark, but I will get back to that later...
I got the most of my final week at UBC with the final dose of beautiful sunsets and good company. And we finally got some snow! We had a great snow ball fight in the streets of Fairview and enjoyed the scenery at Wreck Beach one last time.
Eventually it had to end though, but not before our trip to Whistler was over. I checked out of Fairview on December 16 and went to Whistler. It was absolutely freezing up there (-15C), but it was nice to arrive at our warm house and see the others again. I spent 4 days skiing up there in temperatures reaching -25C and with a freezing breeze. Due to the lack of snow a lot of slopes were not open and there was also the incident with a gondola tower that snapped. This limited our options a bit, but we still managed to enjoy ourselves and it was a nice way of ending our exchange experience.
Jonas and I went back to Vancouver on the 20th, staying one night at a hostel and the last night at a nice hotel. We spent the 21st with Sandrine, Conny and her boyfriend Andy looking at shops in Vancouver and walking through the snow to Stanley Park. In Stanley Park there was an attraction called Bright Nights where a lot of Christmas light decorations were on display.
On the 22nd it was time for my long-awaited trip back to Denmark. I left my hotel around 9.30 in the morning to go to the airport, where is was in for a treat... Managed to check in and go all the way to the gate before my flight was eventually cancelled. This resulted in hours and hours of waiting in Vancouver Airport waiting for a rebooking, waiting on standby for a flight to Toronto instead of Calgary etc. With much delay I made it to Toronto the 23rd only to wait for hours and hours again for my flight to Frankfurt. In Frankfurt the incompentence of Air Canada resulted in me missing yet another flight (this time by an agonizing 5 minutes) and I had to wait for 6,5 hours there. Mind you, it was now December 24... I landed in Copenhagen late in the evening and was finally home at 11 on the night of Christmas. My troubles were over and I made up for it with 11 hours of sleep. (This is a very short version of the worst 2 days I have experienced in a long long long time, but you can of course have the full version if you enquire within). Tonight I will celebrate Christmas with my family with a day's delay.
Merry Christmas everyone and once again I hope you enjoyed reading about my stay in Canada.
Take care,
Michael
