The season was just about over for us. We packed up our gear and set off for some more exciting adventures. Quentin, Leo and I were graced with Dave's presence over the next week. First stop was Revelstoke for the day. Another amazing mountain with lots of snow in the back bowls. Following that we drove straight down to Silver Star where we met up with Elysha who was kind enough to let us crash at her house, which I must say was supremely lavish. Three stories, very modern, private hot tub right on the mountain. We went to the local bar that night and caught up over a few beverages. The next day we rode the mountain there which was very deferent to what we had been experiencing. Not quite as intense but still a lot of fun. Managed to find a lot of snow about which was good. They had a good park but as we hadn't had one the entire season we weren't all the good. Was still very enjoyable to hit some jumps. Although after hitting what would have been about a 20-25ft kicker and losing a rail on the take off resulting in me landing flat on my back, my confidence was a bit shot. Think I was extremely lucky to ride away from it with no serious injury. That night we joined the majority of Silver Star's employees on a bus to Kelowna where we went to Level nightclub for what ended up being one of the most enjoyable nights I've had out in a long time. The long and hazy bus ride back put everyone to sleep upon arrival back at the house.
The next day, Dave was unfortunate enough to cop the driving duties down to Big White. We met up with Robyn's (a friend from Golden) cousin who partied with us. Again we were fortunate enough to have a house to crash at. Dave Cuthbertson put us up in his small yet homely apartment. His housemates were extremely ladsy with one of them offering to sleep on the couch while the four of us shared his room. A quick night ski before partying hard at Sam's bar before heading back for some rest ahead of another day of boarding. Big white was extremely fun with a huge amount of terrain and a lot of fresh snow everywhere. The next day was our drive to Whistler. After choosing to take an alternate route we ended up taking over 9 hours to get there. This included driving for about 200km through straight icy roads where we had some seriously close calls. All ended well as we rolled in to the fairmont driving what must have been the poorest car that has ever turned up there. Very flash hotel I must say. Whistler being Whistler, we partied hard the first night we were there which made riding the next day a bit of a struggle. There is so much terrain and clearly thousands of people to track it out very quickly. It was hard to find fresh snow but still fun nonetheless. We retired to the hotels hot tubs and pools before having an early night. Another day on the mountain which was far more enjoyable not being hungover. This brought us to our last night in whistler which was cause for celebrations. The main club was far too busy so we went to a bar and had many a drink and just as many yarns. We had to rise early to see Dave off on his bus back to Golden. The three of us had to then pack before committing the short drive to Vancouver where we crashed hard for an early night. After dropping Quentin at the airport it was just Leo and I left. A quick cleanup and preparation of the car, including setting up out bed in the back was followed by the trip south.
We crossed the border with no hassles and before we knew it our road trip through the states and begun, soon arriving in Seattle. We managed to find an undercover secure parking lot for our mobile hostel before we hit the town. An early rise came about as we were still getting used to the coziness of our vehicle. The local public markets down by the port were buzzing with hundreds of people by 10am, fresh seafood and meat everywhere. It was quite entertaining watching the stall owners throw fish around like it was nobodies business. After spending hours in the markets and visiting the original Starbucks we decided to head for Portland. After arriving here we realized we must have been hanging around the sketchy part of Seattle. Portland is seriously nice, cheap overnight parking was a serious plus. We've spent the past two nights here. The first day spent looking around town. Today we went out to the Columbia river gorge for a bit of hiking. Despite the rain this was a seriously amazing experience. Waterfalls were around left right and centre. Our decent hike of roughly 3-4 hours ended at the Multnomah waterfall. 620ft high, needless to say the site was breathtaking. Many photos were taken and will soon be shared.
Living out of the car hasn't been too bad apart from the lack of showers. We've been doing the sneaky and loitering around hostels until we make our way to quickly use the facilities. From here we are supposed to be going fishing for Sturgeons tomorrow with the extremely friendly and questionable hairdresser we had cut our hair. Following that we will be making our way down to San Fran.
Until then....
