We arrived at lunch time at this very famous Naval port. Had a bit of trouble getting the hire car as the booking mysteriously had been cancelled. We decided to check into our accommodation and sort it out by tomorrow.
A funny little boutique hotel with a sunken bath in the small bedroom. Anyway, it's a sunny afternoon so Mick decided to have a quick swim, and he learns that there is an ice-berg group here that swims every morning. JB has gone to have her hair done so everyone is happy.
We had a good dinner at '27' another degustation restaurant but very nice.
The next day MB and JB go for a walk along the seaside and Mick joins the lady ice-bergers having fun in the cold water.
First stop after breakfast is the house where Charles Dickens was born, on the 200 year anniversary of his birth.
This gave us great insight into the period where his books are set. Then we went onto the Maritime museum.
This is an enormous precinct full of amazing history starting with Henry VIII's 'Mary Rose', which sank just off the coast during a Spanish battle.
Amazing! We then went on to a guided tour of Nelsen's 'Victory', in which he won the battle of Trafalgar. We were very impressed with the presentation, the whole experience of being in the museum was great. This is still an active naval base with some incredible looking modern warships.
The next day MB has his swim with the girls again and we are off to Brighton and Hastings on our way to Rye.
