Thailand (Bangkok)
First place of our long journey through Asia was Bangkok, We arrived 8.15pm to a warm evening and made our way through the busy streets of silom.
Silom at night time is set up with the night markets if you want something you are bound to find it here even "ping pong" if you know what I mean ;-) Restaurants are everywhere but the best place to eat are the street stalls!
As Friday night was our first night here we made our selves home at a very welcoming hostel called The Urban Age, situated in the very heart of Silom.
We awoke early so we could get too the weekend markets out at Chatuchak markets, every weekend they see over 200,000 thousand people per day!!
This place is crazy the food stalls really impressed me especially the dried foods, I thought Iceland was crazy with their dried fish, Asia 200 times worse he he ☺
Bags, clothes and shoes also a girls heaven!
Lunch time came and the sun was beaming and Julie was melting im guessing it was close to 37 degrees and for once I was not bothered!
We grabbed a bite to eat the ever famous Pad Tai costing only 8kr! I have never seen Julie down her food so fast and comment on how good it was.
After lunch we made a bolt from the crowds to jump aboard a Tuk Tuk to take us to the Chao Phraya River. A Tuk Tuk is one noisy 3 wheeler motorbike just look at the pics you will get the idea!
We jumped onto the local water buses along with all the other cheap arse tourists!
We got too see the Wat Arun temple and a lot of the locals water view homes, not much to be excited about we couldn't believe they were still standing above water.
We had to escape the heat so we took a break back in our air conditioned room then ventured out to our now favourite local pavement restaurant called the bee café.
After a cheap meal and cheap beers we ventured out to the night markets to view the katoys (he shes) hagglers and farangs (tourists).
We now know its true that Bangkok is the number one dirty sex capital of the world "anything goes". Dirty dirty old male westerners and their young Thai girls and boys such a disgrace!
We woke the next day to a terrible headache, we only drank 6 beers I think the heat really does it to you! Sunday was our relaxing day, we found a place to store our bags till June so now we will be travelling with just one pack. Such a relief im so glad its going to make travelling so much easier plus if it gets stolen phhht who cares!!
We woke Monday morning early so we could get our visas sorted for China and Vietnam, with the weather predicted to hit 41 degrees we could definitely agree with that, s*** it was hot especially cause its in the city with no sea breeze….. yuck!
Drinking 1 kr bottled water and eating 1kr fresh bags of fruit is the only relief in this one hot city.
We came to a decision that we would dropped China to spend more time travelling other smaller countries, I could tell you the countries now but we are more then certain our plans will change along the way damn travelling is such a hard decision!
With Vietnams visa out of the way we made it to the tallest building in Bangkok (Baiyoke Sky Tower) 84 floors high with a revolving observation deck on the 84th floor. We got too see the whole of Bangkok from a birds eye view, pity it rained while we were there but we managed to get a good view, although the camera just could not get the same image. Back a few years ago some crazy Norwegians base jumped but got caught now that would be one big rush!
Back to our hostel ready to go for a nice cheap meal thank god the rain cooled the place down!
Today we where up early to visit the floating markets 1,5 hours drive north west from Bangkok. Very interesting to experience everything was for sale on boats, an old lady paddled us around the markeds for 30 minutes. We found 30 minutes was plenty as it was another hot day. We arrived back to Bangkok to catch our train to Koh Pangan we travelled first class leaving 17.02 and arriving at Surat Thani at 05.02. First class?????? we travelled with cockroaches hitching a free ride plus it was a gaol (jail) cell, so we packed our sink full of ice and beers and put it down as a fun experience. We had a bus ride then a ferrie ride..... finally at 12 noon we were surrounded by aqua blue waters at Koh pangan FINALLY!!!!With Julie fully recharged with a full belly of food we hit the road on our scooter and headed for the ever so famous Haad rin beach. Haad rin is famous for the full moon party that is held every month. On our way alone the hilly windy concrete roads we gor to experience some amazing views over looking the coast line not to meantion the sunsets. We book our accommodation before we left Australia for Haad rin we arrived at the guest house "chill house" to realise it was packed full of Danish and Swedish people all you had to do was close our eyes and you would think you where back in Denmark. We "chilled" out on the deck over looking the beach in our hammocks as our room was far from basic. We stayed at Koh Pangan for 3 days to explore the coastline and inland all by our trusty scooter, by far the best transport for a little island. We took the morning ferry to Koh Samui the island next door, did a full lap of the island to check out some of the local sightseeing to realise it was a over populated turist destination so we grab a flight out to Phuket (by the way was the best flight we have ever had) to meet up with Charlie and Ida where we are at present. Both of us are still waiting for the fun parts of our traveling in Asia hopefully soon when we get to north Thailand, we are so over arriving to each place to find its just one big charter holiday city.
