MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
Oh what a beautiful morning! It's Sunday, the sun is shining and we have more fabulous news from home. Stacy has won the Western Border Netball League Best and Fairest Award , a very proud Mummy and Daddy Turnbull on board. Brad & Wilson won the WBFL Best and Fairest award and North Gambier has been awarded as a club at the highest level. Congratulations to everyone. The Hammond's also have reason to be proud as Sam has achieved exceptional results in his study at RMIT in computer programming. All our chests are so puffed out at the moment there is hardly any room inside Harvey. Now to get back on the road. We have a city tour of Tulsa to view the sites listed in the brochures. So many sites, too many to list but some are a bit rundown but I'm sure were significant to the old road. It's a shame that life is so fast these days that the highway has bypassed all of this. The big cities have no appeal, driving through the small towns and countryside is so much more interesting. Stroud is a very small town but it has The Rock Cafe where stop for morning tea. It's a replication of the original diner as it burnt down. The owner, Dawn Welch is the inspiration for the character Sally Carrera in the movie cars so there is a lot of cars memorabilia in the store. Next door is Mamma's gift shop, its run by the cafe people so you choose what you want and go next door to pay for it. Such trust. The people are so friendly and are happy to stop and chat, their service ethic is beyond belief, no matter the age of the person. We could learn a lot from that, they are just so appreciative of you coming into their town and their shop, even the checkout ladies in Walmart! Back on the road there's Chandler, Arcadia with its Round Barn and 'Pops' with its 66 foot tall soda bottle out the front. They advertise that they have over 600 flavours of soda. Thankfully it's Sunday so our drive around Oklahoma City is easy as there is no traffic and we can take slow past the sites. It's a hot one today and most of what we want to see is visible from Harvey so we can stay in his air conditioning. Just down the road a bit is El Reno and an old Fort used by the soldiers during the time when they were fighting the Indians . There's a very interesting map in the Officers quarters showing the areas and the name of the Indian tribes that belonged there. It's after 3 we haven't had lunch so Liz whips into action and we have poached eggs with ham, tomato, mushrooms, spinach and cheese served up in no time. Bit of an oopsy because we made the generator work too hard having the a/c and the toaster on so we lost power ,no a/c and 100 degrees F meant we ate quick and got back on the road. No more stops now until we reach our campsite which is in Foss State Park. We have a lovely site overlooking the reservoir . It's still very hot so we walk to the water for a paddle to cool off. After a beautiful sunset, a couple of drinks, lovely dinner and our nightly slide show of the days events, its now time to sleep. It's after 11pm and still about 30 degrees . Hope the a/c keeps going. Goodnight Harvey xx
