Not knowing how early I should arrive at the station to catch my train, I rose before the sun. I began the trek over the scores of bridges towards the train station. I only got lost once! I got to the station an hour before my 8:30am train and found out I wouldn't even know the platform number until 20 minutes beforehand. Still, better safe than sorry! The train ride was nice and I even got to nap a bit. I had to switch trains before the end which would have been frustrating but a nice man was headed to Pisa as well and he helped me negotiate the system. When we got to Pisa he even got me a ride with his friend and him to the tower! The tower was beautiful (the picture should give you an idea of just how much it is leaning) and had been recently renovated. I purchased a ticket to climb to the top ($20!!) and the view was awesome. I was so glad that I had left my luggage at the station because the stairs were worn and narrow. It took me a while to get back to the train station and I ended up using gps. I had a couple hours to pass at the station so I sat outside people watching. A guy approached me asking for a cigarette and even after I said I had none and that I only speak English he sat down and tried to talk to me! He was trying to say something about how beautiful I was and ask whether I was single or not but I just played dumb and waited to make my escape. After what seemed like an eternity (but in actuality was only like 10/15 minutes) I excused myself to "find my train". Before I left he insisted on kissing my checks which the second check instead of kissing it he basically molested it with his tongue!! So gross!! Inside the station I sat down to watch the departures screen but almost immediately was asked for money by a teenager. I decided it was safest to sit inside the cafe to pass the rest of my time. Even after collecting my bag I still had 45 minutes to wait and that eventually became an hour as delays pushed back my departure. Just a word of advice to those traveling on Italian trains (it may actually apply to trains in general), first class is all the way to the back of the train not the front like airplanes!
