Here we are in Nelson; the sunshine capital of New Zealand. Our sunburn says it all. Despite the sunny weather, we still had to endure gale force winds on our way to the beach. I nearly got blown away, several times. The beach was beautiful though, and very peaceful (especially after we found a bush to hide from the wind in). I was the only person stupid enough to get into the sea. Very English of me. It was absolutely freezing!
Ventured into Abel Tasman National Park for a couple of days; a stunning area of the country. Walked through bush and along beachy coast for the first day, stopping in some breathtakingly beautiful bays and soaking up the lovely white sands and emerald waters. Camped out with some other guys from Kiwi which was good fun and witnessed an incredible night sky from the beach at Bark Bay. The stars tumbled all the way down to the horizon. Hopped into a Kayak the next morning for an 18k paddle back to base. Lots of fun but a a challenge even for my bulging biceps! Luckily, we had had Harold, an enormous Maori man with enormous hair, as our guide to spur us on through the tough times, which he duly did by making us chant Hukka songs all the way. Oh, Harold.
