Brian: Friday, March 1
After a much needed 12 hours of sleep, we woke and walked down to one of the courtyards, where the hotel serves its guests breakfast each day. The food was really fresh and it was accompanied by a refreshing fruit juice, or jugo de frutas. Thankfully Merry ordered a dish with a fruit plate side; which came with the usual suspects but at least one fruit we failed to identify. Despite that, I think I will be ordering that tomorrow morning.
After breakfast, we set out, walking up to the main square in the town, just a couple blocks from our hotel, where we were approached by a street salesman selling sunglasses. Having brushed him off, we stopped about 10 paces away, did an about-face, and proceeded to purchase 2 pairs. Merry was very pleased with her pair, which juxtaposes GW Bush with Che Gevara, though probably without any intentional irony.
We exchanged some money, and the proceeded with our plan, was to meander around, and explore the city. Very intense.
Walking around the streets was quite relaxing. With every block we were greeted by another site of brightly painted buildings, as well as unique types of sidewalks, which are apparently the responsibility of each building owner to maintain.
We headed down to the water front of Lago Nicaragua, probably the 6 largest lake in North America after the Great Lakes. The waterfront, is not very developed, and didn't appear to have much to offer, so we walked back up to the plaza for lunch.
Having found a Hole in the Wall, (that was its name) we had a very calm lunch. For better or worse, they had WiFi, so we sent off our obligatory checkins to our families, and escaped back to our hotel for a dip (or two) in the pool. Simply exquisite. There were all of 4 other people by the pool, and it is very secluded. We are toying with the idea of staying down here and finding jobs overhauling the websites of hotels to make rent.
Overall a very relaxing day. Tomorrow we plan to be a bit more adventurous and take a hiking tour of a volcano.
Well that's all for now. Off to dinner, errr I mean cena.
