Today was our first full day in Nicaragua!
Merry: Thursday Feb 28
We landed mid-afternoon yesterday, picked up the car (a process that moved at a leisurely pace), and got on the road.
They're not big on naming roads in Nicaragua, nor are they great about posting street signs for roads that do, in fact, have names. As the navigator, I was concerned, and had pages and pages of detailed Google Maps print outs to work with. But it turned out that the one page, not at all to scale map handed to us by the car rental agent was extremely helpful, and we got to Granada without a problem. Once in Granada...we got lost. But we're pretty sure that we're going to get lost at least once on each leg, and we quickly figured out which direction we wanted to get to...it just took awhile for us to figure out how to make our way through the tangle of one-way, pedestrian-only, or closed for construction streets.
Our hotel is gorgeous and airy. Tiled floors, wooden furniture, two prettily landscaped courtyards with brightly colored flowers, small
palm trees and a little pool.
We walked over to the plaza-esque street for a DELICIOUS dinner of traditional Nicaraguan food and beer at Platas Tipicas y Mas. The waiters were so nice, the boys selling various souvenirs...not so much.
