Getting My Hands Dirty
I arrived on Saturday here at this farm in Gerladton, Australia. I have been planting cantelopes, weeding, and spreading mulch. I've also been helping some with a few things around the wood working workshop. At the end of every workday, I'm covered with sawdust and dirt. I've learned that there is always something to do on a farm. Always some task that needs some attention. The guy that runs this farm, Max, has some really beautiful wooden furniture that he designs and makes himself. He also has a ping pong table in his workshop that we all have been playing on after our day of work is done. There is a nice balcony with a hammock to kick back and relax on. There always seems to be a cool breeze coming from the ocean that makes the evenings really nice. I got to drive a Bobcat yesterday while we were dispersing some mulch over a bank. I never thought I would get to do that. It's really fun getting to know some Australians and get to see what they do here. Max took me and some others to the ocean yesterday to relief ourselves from the heat. The water felt great but the current was so strong. I'm leaving on Sunday night for my trip back to the eastern side of the country. I'll first be traveling to Tasmania for two weeks, then back to Melbourne. Tasmania is supposed to have lots of kayaking, hiking, biking, and many beautiful spots. It doesn't feel like Christmas time at all at the moment for me. The weather is so warm it just reminds me of laid back summer days in the US. Take care everyone.
