Got a boat then a coach to Bangkok. 1st class compared to the grotty train we got before AND cheaper. The coach was an 8 hr journey and we must have prayed about 1000 times... Floods + monsoon storm = speed up to coach drivers. On a positive we made good time, these Thais are efficient!
We got to the airport the next day after staying in an overpriced hotel, thanks to the floods. Not only did we find out that we needed a visa to get into Oz within 2 hours but our flight had been cancelled thanks to good old Qantas striking. Thankfully got transferred to another flight that night free of charge. Thai Airways ended up being 100 times better and got loads more free drinks (alcohol included!!)
All in all, Thailand's been pretty eventful, it wasn't at all what we expected. Going from one country that's obsessed with regulations, health & safety etc to one with no regulations and questionable hygiene was a culture shock. We focused on the positives and made the most of the beautiful surroundings. On top of all this, Mel's learnt to live without straighteners and mascara.
