What a truly amazing day. 6 of us went on a snorkeling and swimming trip to Whitehaven Beach. A stunning location with reefs full of multi coloured fish and corals. We took a tour with Ocean Rafting to some fringing reefs for snorkeling, the first spot being Black Island or Bali Hi as it's known locally. The fast rib got us there in about 20 minutes. We donned our stinger suits to protect us from jelly fish and jumped on in. Beautiful corals were only a few metres below us with a myriad of fish swimming in and out. Zebra fish, Angel fish all busied about the soft corals below me. Then on to Monteray Bay on Hook Island. I didn't think it could get any better but it did! The current was less and with my fins on it was very easy to navigate around the reef. A huge Rass fish swam right past with it's own little cleaner fish as well as hundreds of blue and yellow fish. A turtle came for a brief visit and I took some great photos on my waterproof camera.
Onwards to Whitehaven Beach for lunch and a bit more swimming. The ride through the islands was stunning but Whitehaven takes your breath away. Miles of pristine white sand and aqua blue ocean. After lots of photos, a great lunch and swimming we headed back to Airlie. Our skipper , Tim and crew, TK kept us entertained with information and a few fast boat antics on the way back.
Tonight it's reading, phone calls home and an early night.
Thursday - it's party night in the house. We've just had a massive bbq and now things have moved down to the pool. Hugh and Dan are jumping from the balcony in to the pool - crazy skippers. I'm keeping out of it! I may be staying with this lot in Danang as a spare bed has come up. Don't worry I am behaving myself and will continue to do so!
This morning was fun as I took a segway tour in to the rain forest. The beautiful trees and the smell and sounds of the forrest were well worth the trip. I was the only guest on the tour so had 1:1 with a guide - Zak. All was going brilliantly, stunning trees, tea and cake at the half way point of the 7k trip, butterflies of azure blue fluttering past, then we headed back. Zak needed to answer a call of nature so I went on ahead only to hit a rock in the path and come off grazing my arm in the process. My first thought was - please don't be bad because of the boat, 2nd thought was for my phone and camera. By the time Zak got to me I looked like I'd been attacked, as my arm was bleeding profusely. Zak cleaned me up and I just have a bit of gravel rash. No more daring do for me until Monday!
Crew sign on day tomorrow xx By the way our bird friends in the tree outside the house are Rainbow Larakeets.
Friday - crew change over, welcome and prize-giving night. On a very hot, sultry evening we picked up our 2nd place pennant. We are going for gold next leg, so watch out LMax. Oliver's winner's shirt was liberated as a battle trophy last night so the French better stand by! An amazing fireworks display topped off a night I will never forget.
