Here I am at Airlie Beach sitting in my luxury house drinking a cool beer. It's a hard life but someone's got to do it! It's been a whirlwind few days and it's only likely to ramp up. I arrived after 3 flights from the UK to the boats arriving that evening. I was on the marina dockside to cheer them in. We came second to LMAX by 42 seconds After a few cold beers on the pontoon we ventured in to Airlie Beach to a nightclub for more beer and loud music. I made it back to the house at 2 but left them to it until 5!
The next day was a rest day for them so I spents swimming and chlling out by the beautiful lagoon which I can see from where we are staying.
Airlie is truly paradise. It's hot here, tropical birds in the trees and a totally chilled out vibe to the town. It's so relaxing here, something I've really needed after the last few weeks. We've been hanging out at the house, cooking a few bits and generally having an amazing time. This house share is just the best! Wierdly enough a friend of Helen and Carl is staying and she is an an ex Davison girl from the year below me. Small world! There are around 7 of us staying. I say around as people come and go and stay over. There have been a few random bodies on the sofa in the morning!
Tomorrow we have all booked a trip to Whitehaven beach with snorkeling and swimming on the reefs. I am so looking forward to it.This is a truly amazing place.
Yesterday I did spend 4 hours shopping for the boat with Claire the victualler. 20 trollies and £1500 later we unloaded it on to the boat. This morning was packing the day bags and then back to the house. I'm not actually contracted until Friday but it was lovely to help out and get back with my crew mates. I've been hanging out with an olympian (Abi) this morning!
Last night I had my first Ausie barbie on the beach. There are free public barbecues right on the beach so you just just rock up with a few steaks and drinks, push a button and you cook your dinner on the beach. Someone brought music. Paradise.
Crew parties and boat maintenance await me over the next few days and then race start on Monday. Itching to get going now. This is the right place for me right now. Next stop Vietnam.
