The gondola ride was lovely- we went all the way to Rialto bridge and down part of the grand canal. And of course, right past our hotel room! The gondola we were in was 22 years old- apparently fairly old.

So i might be a heathen, but mass in St Marcos was great. Just the people watching was worthwhile, plus the politics of locals vs tourists in line!
John has nipped off to bienalle to have a look at the international pavilions while I became more acquainted with San Marcos. I even had to paddle through a flooded section near St marcos.
We have done the tour thing of St Marcos basilica (so much gold glittering!), the Doges palace (including the adjacent prison via the bridge of sighs), the Grand Canal cruise (all those palaces while sipping Bellini peach sparkling wine), and the cathedral Frari Which houses Titians Madonna of the Assumption and is much more austere than St Marcos basilica. We have yet to round out the tour scenario with a gondola ride (for some reason the time got messed up yest...
