We had a great time in Santiago... spent the days wandering around, went up a hill on a funicular to see a huge statue of Mary and ate some good food.
Also spent a couple of days just chilling at our hostel being rather hungover. We went out one night after a bbq at our hostel with loads of people... we saw Santiago's answer to a gig, which constisted of about 15 guys on a stage half rapping and singing. It was comedy if nothing else. Sair was forced to dance a bit of salsa with a brazilian dude, Ellen ended up 'back stage' (with all the beer crates), a good night in all.
In the queue to the check-in desk leaving Santiago, we befriended a cool scottish guy, Gordon, who started chatting to us about our yorkshire accents. A drink in the airport and a long flight later, and we're in Auckland baby!
Auckland really does feel like we've gone back to England... people driving on the left side, normal keyboards on computers, English language... all things we haven't been used to in a while! It was actually pretty hard to not say 'gracias' when we first got here.
So we stumbled into our dorm at about 5am, fumbled around in the dark trying to make our beds and tried to sleep, which considering it was mid afternoon in south ameruca and we were surrounded by 6 smelly, snoring guys, was not so easy.
Our first day here was spent wandering round the centre, we somehow managed to unveil the hyde park area of Auckland which was ace. We had good grub and trauled through many a vintage store, it was great.
After a good snooze we sneaked a bottle of wine into our room, like a couple of 12 year olds (you're not allowed it in your room at the hostel, ha!). We met Gordon in the bar and continued on the vino, which was occasionally interuppted by the guy at our hostel bar literally holding our heads while he poured tequila down our necks. The rest of the night was a complete blur of dancing, getting i.d'd (we had our passports) and being told we couldnt get in to a club coz we were wearing flip-flops! jokes. Great night though.
Next day, Ellen bumped in to a dude, Falc, we'd met in Santiago at our hostel on her sneaky run to burger king (we were hungover man). Next thing, Gordon's at our hostel with his hire car, waiting to set off, minutes later we're on our way to the coast, sweet. Although not so much for Sair, who was suffering from last nights drinking action. Which consisted of numerous stops on the windy roads, for Sair to be sick.
Saw a lovely beach though, drove accross the harbour bridge, generally taking in the good sunshine and sights. good s***! We spent last night hungover and tired at our hostel bar. It wasn't completely actionless though, Gordon NEARLY won the pool compettion. It was probably best he didnt to be fair, as the proze was a $50 bar tab, couldnt have done it!
Today we went up the sky tower and had ice-creams by the harbour... tonight we'll meet falc for drinks and pack.... Fiji Tommorrow!
