After a few hours delayed in Auckland airport, spent eating free burger king and conversing with the talking toilets we arrived in Fiji! Bula! We had suprisingly good grub and a room to oursleves (which was great after the stinky boys in Auckland...). Sair screamed the house down and attacked the spider in our room, smashing a glass in the process...
Next day we begun our island hopping... first stop 'Long Beach' on Matacawalevu. It was very quiet... only about 10 people there, very peaceful. It certainly lived up to it's name and was pretty impressive. We met a freaky czech girl on the small boat to the island and couldnt stop laughing at her weirdness, consisting of an hours excercise regime in the morning, strict dietry demands and pornstar poses on the beach. Hilarious. We spent the afternoon lazing about and having tea and cake with lovely jim, candadian Rose, Ben and a natalies mum look-a-like (Sasha). Sairs love for dogs also started on this day. she made a new friend, who she named 'lassie'. We spent the evening having a bonfire on the beach, playing guitar (not us), stargazing and toasting marshmallows. Lovely. We were also introduced to the tourists tradition of going to bed bloody early and were in bed by 10!
Next morning we realised the extent of which carbs would feature in our lives for the next week. In 24 hours we concumed pasta, bread, rice , noodles, potatoes, cakes and donuts... ok for a while! After donuts for brekkie we took the small boat to the big boat another small boat and ended up at 'sunrise' on Nanuya Lailai. On arrival we were greeted by the craziest f***ing fijian we'd ever meet... 'queen'. hahahah. The first thing he said to ellen was ' you look like paris hilton with those glasses... but you need to get a tan girll' and Sair was just known as 'his good friend from Pakistan'.
Sair met Lassie number 2 and we took a walk to the other side of the island... We found the Blue Lagoon, where they filmed some Brook Shields film and did some fantastic snorkelling, we found nemo and all his mates, ace. After a walk around the rocky coast we returned to the resort and had dinner with Jenna and Steve and Viktor and Sarah, who became good mates. Crazy Queen made us all stand up and introduce ourselves 'starting with my good friend from Pakistan...' ha! We had another bonfire and were forced to sing our national anthems... Jokes! 10 brits did an appalling job, whereas one brazilian kicked the brazilian national anthems arse.
Next day.. officially the 6 week mark!Today we hit 'White Sandy Beach' on Niviti... We had the best welcome, with the loudest rendition of the bula song and cocunuts on arrival. We were delighted to find no bunks and a flower on our beds. That avvie we walked to honeymoon beach for more laziness. We had an ace buffet dinner and watched some traditional fijian dancing, joining in at choice moments. The rest of the evening consisted of drinking games (ring of fire and slaps) 'whats the name of the game???' 'SLAPS' 'whats the aim of the game??' 'TO GET f***EDDDD'.... (No need to google, we'll teach you when we get home... Sair sulked off to bed early as her arm inflamed to epic proportions from mozzie bites :( And Ellen hit the sack after another bonfire on the beach and lots of Fijian renditions on the guitar of Oasis, Backstreet Boys and Venga Boys and a heavy bout of rain.
Left White Sandy Beach after Ellen being accosted by crazy fijian men trying to take pics of her (see photo). next we hit 'Sunset' on Waya, where were delighted to find we had our own private buree (aka a little shack)... we tossed for the beds and ellen got the doubleee. We met two of our favourite lasses, vicky and chloe, that entertained us no end. Had another gross helping of rice for dinner, followed by learnning the Bula dance (poor man's macarena!!!!!) and playing limbo. We bonfired on the beach and had a cava ceremony (the traditonal drink, made out of some kinda plant, tasted like mud, Sair loved it for its supposed narcotic effects and it gave Ellen a numb mouth...)
Next day Ellen made a car in the sand with vicky and Chloe (see pic!!) and made shell jewellry, whilst Sairs obsession for her book (we need to talk about Kevin) grew stronger. (Sair: it's such a good book). We said goodbyes to the girls and headed for Kuata Resort. That night we enjoyed a happy half hour and gorged on gin and tonics (which tasted like the the smell of the doctors waiting room) and malibu and cokes (tasted good). After another bonfire and chatting to people, we rushed back to our dorm before the electricity went off promtly at 11. It's a good job the lights weren't on as what we would've seen would've been frightening. We could hear squeaking and scuttling mice/rats and whatever else was outside our mozzie net.
We woke up to find the box of peanuts that sair'd left on the windowsill had been chewed through... ergh! After more carbs for both breakfast and dinner we thought we needed a bit of luxury, we took the afternoon boat to 'bounty Island' (where they filmed cleb love island). We delighted to find our old danish, swedish and german friends were there. After bbq'ing on the beach, more bangin fijian songs and drinking cocktails me met with our mates for a european drinking sesh. Drinking games ensued (ellen drank the cup of fire) and after runnign up a huge bar tab we daren't look at we headed to bed. Not before we kissed about 10 statues (see pics) and stole products from other dorms. hehe!
Tuesday 15th May... after a fantastic cooked brekkie, bbq dinner, ellen seeing a sting ray in the sea and facing up to our bar tab, we headed on a fishing trip with the danish lasses and two Lindsay Lohan look-a-likes. Didn't catch any fish :(, but the ones that were caught were huge! Next we kayaked around the island... hard work when hungover! Ellen managed to power through it, whereas sair was way behind and had Ellen worrynig she was dead or something. That eve we arrived in Nadi Bay Resort on the mainland, sad island hopping was over! After good grub, we went to bed in a 'two bed dorm', which was actually two beds next to the kitchen area.... next to the pool though.
We decided to change our flights earlier so we could get to Oz sooner to meet ellie and natalie. We spent a day organising stuff and lounging by the pool. That night we met viktor and sarah again and caught music and lyrics (again!)... check sairs myspace for 'the best song in the world'...haha.
We had a banging time in Fiji... made up of beaches, bonfires, beautiful people, bevvies and banging music... 'Fiji.... ever Fijiiiii'!
Bula!!!
