Melissa's & Gemma's Travels
Hello Everyone!
We are on our 2nd to last day in Nz today! We will be sad to say goodbye to Peanut who has been a lovely home for the last 3 weeks! Although, we do have the mammoth task of clearing and tidying it all tomoroow! Boooooo! I haven't been the clean freak I normally am!
We left Christchurch and made our way to Nelson via Hanmar Springs. We where meant to go to the hot springs there, but it was raining and didn'y much fancy it, so stopped for lunch and carried on to Nelson.
Nelson was very cute, but nothing really to hold us there so stopped over the night and got up and went to Picton to catch the ferry back to the north island!
Another good ferry crossing and arrived in Wellington around lunch time. We went to the museum there and it was quite good for a museum! I am sure you would like it mum, good place to take the beavers!
We tried to go out in Wellington, but we where having a good time, but we didn't seem to be getting drunk, and by 12 we decided to call it a night as it wasn't much fun watching everyone else stagger around!
We the arrived in Taupo where Gem had planned to do a Sky Dive, but the weather wasn't up to it so she wasn't able to. We went to the springs there at night which was really nice. Even though it was very cold outside, it didn't matter as the springs were so hot!
We went to the Craters of the moon walk, and Haka Falls, and attempted to go to a Prawn Farm, until we looked at it!!!!! Not what we thought it was going to be!
From there we drove upto Watimo Caves where we had booked in to do our 5 adventure tour! It ended up being a real bonus as we where the only 2 on the tour so we had there undivided attention!
Yet again we slipped into Wet suits, welly's, hard hats and harness's! We had to absail down a 25m drop into a dark cave which was a lot of fun. Getting used to all the hights! We the where shown to the Glow worm Cave! It was amazing that all this light was being made by glowing maggots waste product! See I learnt something as well!
The next bit for me wasn't enjoyable! It was the black water rafting, and when they say that they mean sit in a tube and float down the stream in a cave in the dark! Also the guide informed us of the eels smimming around!!!!! They said not to worry just don't touch them - easier said than done in the dark!!Also Being someone not overly pleased with the dark, I was a little scared, and seeing Gemma just float further and further away had me a little worried to say the least! But that said, once the head torchs where turned on, I was much happier and actually enjoyed myself! We did a spot of caving - squeezing youeself through space you really look like you won't fit through! We then had the Climb back up to the top. We must have looked so funny as we had to do this with all our gear on and the welly's!!!!!
We then made the drive back to Auckland as we have a couple of things to sort out! We went to the Cinema again!!!! Watched DOA- definatly one for the boys lot's of girls fighting in skimpy clothes!
We went to Auckland Zoo today whcih was lovely, although when you have been on safari, Zoo's don't seem quite the same. But it was a very nice Zoo all the same!
We had tried out the THEME PARK here, but it was the biggest let down. All the brochures made it look really good, but when we got there it was a Ghost town!~ wierd!!!
Anyway so it is our last day tommorrow and we are having to sort out things to send home, pack and clean the van, so nothing exciteing.
I hope everyone is well, and please let us know what you are up to. It is always great to hear from you all!
Lot's of love and happiness,
Mel
