We had our first little drama this morning when the rivets on one of the beds snapped. Luckily our next door neighbour in the park had all the gear we needed to fix it pretty quickly. How nice is that? We got going an hour later than we planned, with Gaz spending the morning muttering,"I almost packed the cordless drill...". We clocked up over 700km before we got to our designated bush camp just north of Norseman. The kids were amazing- not a word of complaint the whole day. I, however was well and truly over being stuck in the car for that long and felt pretty cranky by the time we got there. I got over it pretty quickly as we started exploring our camp. The camp spot was really nice big area with some great shady gum trees, bins and fire pits. It proved to be quite popular, with at least 5 other vehicles pulling up for the night not long after we got there. Not that I'm whinging, as I'm still on my escapist's high, but the flies were worse than Ajana's which forced us to eat inside. The weather was gorgeous so this was a bit annoying. That night the temperature dropped so much that we had to throw the picnic blanket over the kid's bedding, while Gaz and I clung to each other to keep warm (don't think he minded much!). I now feel really stupid for not bringing extra blankets! I was in the mind set that it's the middle of summer in the middle of the desert, thinking there would be not a chance that we would get cold!! What a dumb arse. Now I have to pay penance by buying extra bloody blankets when we reach a town with a population greater than just Ma and Pa Kettle. If anything, today has taught us that u can pack everything including the kitchen sink, but still be unprepared for some things. Live and learn, huh?
