Saturday 20 June ~ Sunday 21 June
Greetings from Torekov! No, I'm not in Russia although the name would easily mislead you in thinking I may have made a detour and turned east. Torekov is a small town, if you may call it that, on the southwest coast sort of between Malmo (which I ended up skipping completely) and further north, Gothenburg. I am staying at a lovely campsite, which is almost empty as of this morning when most Swedes returned home after a long festive weekend. Yesterday I visited my friend Mia's parents who bought a place here after they retired, a lovely wooden house with a view of the sea from the upstairs window. Maria, one of Mia's friends will be coming over to Torekov this Monday and we will go into town. Parents will chauffeur so we can be wild hahaha. Looking forward to that. This morning Ulla, Mia's mom took me out sightseeing to the local harbour, the cliff at Hovs Hallar where we had an icecream (the weather was hot!) and we went into Båstad, checked out some art galleries which were no good and we went to the local carpet factory where everything is made by hand. Beautiful! The one I really liked was a mere Euro 40,000 (ridiculous). Can you imagine how I would have my eyes on Blom and Olive constantly forbidding them to even look at it…let alone lie on it….that is, if I could afford a carpet like that.
On Tuesday think I will be leaving for Gothenburg and hopefully meet up with some people there. Then above Gothenburg I may - may - go diving, depending on how cold it is.
My, it's quiet here. Wonder how I will sleep tonight. I think I've chosen the farthest spot, far away from screaming teenagers showing off their musical taste through ghetto blasters and trying to be heard at the same time.
Right. I'm beginning to sound like an old woman. Think this old lady should turn in.
Tomorrow I'm hoping for a sunny day on the beach. Book, water, towel and me in a bikini. Help, that will be a sight for sore eyes, I think I give light.
Monday 22 June ~ Tuesday 23 June
I am writing you from Strömstad, which is a picturesque little town on the Westcoast of Sweden, touching the Norwegian border. There has been a slight change of plan and I decided to drive here directly from Torekov and visit Gothenburg later. On my 5 hours-drive I was accompanied by Jeff Buckley (Lover, you should have come over….awesome), Ane Brun (Linger with pleasure, my travel theme), Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (Polly come home, a killer!) and The Kings of Leon (Closer on repeat, repeat and repeat once more) while singing along (or was it howling?). I'm driving 90 k's/hr max. but it suits me fine. I'm in no hurry!
I plan to do some diving in this area, though I was warned that the water may be too cold still as Sweden has had good weather only since a week or two. I guess I'd better find out tomorrow. If I can do some diving, then I think I'm going to hang out here for a while. I have a camping spot overlooking a big lake (see pics) and I feel like sticking around a bit and taking daytrips from here and walk and cycle for a bit.
And may be do what I set out to do in the first place: do some writing.
Yesterday I was out on the beach all day, basking in the sun, sleeping (unbelievable, if you know I slept no less than 11,5 hours the night before) and reading…it was lovely. In the evening Maria arrived in Torekov and after dinner at Mia's parents, we went out for a night in the town. Well…of course it was a Monday night but I think we shared the three available venues with a max. of 10 people. Nonetheless we had a good time chatting about - you know - life and stuff, drank some wine after which we were picked up by Maria's parents (I felt like a teenager) and for the first time this holiday I came home in the dark. I've been going to bed quite early these holidays, partly because it can get quite cold in the evening but mainly because I'm exhausted by the time the clock reaches 9ish.
Once again internet was not working the past two days and it pisses me off. Anway, now it does and I can finally place this blog though the info is slightly out of date, place the new pics as well as respond to the lovely messages I got from some of you!
Anyway, don't be a stranger, call or sms at +31 621574058 or mail to [email protected] if not through the travelblog (there's also a e-mail option there).
PS 1 guess what visited me while I was eating my homemade bruschette (which was scrumptious if I may say so, yes Mel, you may say so): a squirrel. Beautiful!
PS 2 and there is a huge Coop here, the upperclass among supermarkets! Tomorrow's menu offers portobellos with cheese, a pizza made in my very own little oven and a selection of cheeses for desert…who's joining me??????
