Thursday 23 July
I must admit, I feel quite chuffed with myself this evening. Just returned from a jazzy music performance in the park of Jokkmokk where the campsite owner Hans played his bass. I think his girlfriend Rian from Amsterdam and I were the youngest among the crowd, but who cares. It was nice to be out listening to live music even though it was raining. Had a glass of wine in the local pub with Hans and Rian and am now sitting inside of my little home while it's raining outside.
Now back to the chuffed part. I have just poured myself a second glass of red, have some olive crackers with cheese made by Rian (it's good!) and candles & music on. It's warm enough inside and I feel good. I mention this because the past few days have been strange, to say the least. Here I was (and still am) in a beautiful place and though it does impose some sort of rest on me, I still feel as if I need to be moving or moving on. Going against this feeling, I have decided to linger and take my time and read and relax. And write. I have so much time left but still, I have decided to create a Plan B. Plan B being to take on Norway in a separate road trip. Now as you know, plan B's are usually used when A does not work, so I have decided to only go for Plan B is A is making me miserable. Fat chance when you are on holiday, you might think, but my restlessness is an indicator I might need to turn back at a faster pace after having been to the North Cape than I had planned originally. For so many reasons I will not bore you with.
Meanwhile I am going to keep on having fun and enjoying this country that truly stole my heart.
PS 1 Can't believe I actually wrote a letter to Michael Palin thanking him for writing his beautiful stories. No idea where to send it to though so that saves me from gross embarrassment.
PS 2 Beautiful museum in Jokkmokk on Sami culture & life, which collection has evidently been put together with much effort and love for its heritage. Was definitely worth the visit.
PS 3 I love Sweden!
PS 4 There's no better mosquito than a dead mosquito.
