Well here we are again a few days later and a new location! We spent the last few days in 'Jewwsey' in a little cheap motel that was a 20 minute bus ride from the city. We met up with Meghan and Mary, two of my online friends the other day for dinner and a wander round the City. They got us more lost than they had already hehe. We wandered around St Patricks Cathedral which was beautiful and had a 'real New York hotdog' the girls insisted. We went for sushi which was quite yummy but unfortunately Matt woke up in the middle of the night with a swollen throat, indicating he was probably allergic to something in the sushi. We got some antihistimine and it calmed down though, he's fine again now.
We walked a lot on Saturday, went up to a great little Thai restaurant for lunch on 47th and between 8th and 9th Avenues I think and had loads of yummy food for $7 each (about #3.50) so that was brill. We walked all the way down 12th Avenue, next to the Hudson River and walked past Ground Zero, which was very moving, though the vendors were just cashing in and it was annoying.
Matt started to get drowsy from the antihistimine medicine otherwise we probably would have gone out to Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty. We had a long walk back to the bus station though and walked threough Chinatown, which was busy and bustling. We got back to the hotel in the evening and just slept we were so tired!
Yesterday we shipped out nice and early and came to meet Sheila in the city. We drove out to Port Washington on Long Island and went to see the Chinese New Year celebrations which were great fun!! We saw an extract from the Peking Opera about the Monkey King and it was really fun, had acrobatics and martial arts in there and great to watch. We headed back out to Shoreham, stopping off for food on the way and Sheila has been very hospitable! We're going to book our accommodation in Chicago shortly and then me and Matt are going to cook dinner tonight. Tomorrow we're off again, this time to Chicago on a 19 hour train journey. We leave at 4pm tomorrow and arrive at 10am the following day, but the Amtrak trains look comfy hehe,
I think that's all for now!
