Hey all,
Thanks for all the messages.
Firstly, we went to Angkor Wat yesterday and it rained all day - stop laughing!!! I was really gutted but it never took away from the fact it was a fantastic sight.
The rain contributed to the worst flooding in the region for the last 6 years according to the guide we hired for the day. The bus drive on the way home was amusing as we had to drive through the water praying that we did not breakdown. We did see a tuk tuk driver collapse which was hilarious as it had people in it too.
We went to three temples - Angkor Wat (main one - massive), Angkor Tom and Ta Prom (which was the setting for the Tomb raider lara croft film). They were amazing and i have loads of interesting facts tat you will love when i get back.
As soon as you get off the bus you get mobbed by the locals (mainly kids) selling random stuff like postcards and braclets etc, which they say "1 dollar" and start spurting out random facts about England like Gordon Brown is the PM. The tour leader has told us not to buy anything frop them as there is a charity trying to get them into education instead rather than selling stuff on the streets.
In the evening yesterday we went out for a meal and went to a bar called Angkor What (what a pun?!) where we/I decided that we would drink lots of pitchers of cocktails, so i got a little drunk, but it was really good fun. The slogan of the pub was"promoting irresponsible drinking since 1998"which i thought was funny. I got a T-shirt from the bar too.
Today has been a longer day due to the hangover, so i spent most of the morning in bed before we got on a local public bus to Phnom Penh (Cambodia capital) which was 6 hours long but the views of the villages and scenary was amazing.
In summary Cambodia has been really great and it has really impressed me. The people are friendly, the sites are brilliant and the food is awesome (spring rolls were yummy, and i had a chicken curry within a coconnut shell yesterday which was the best dish yet). I actually had a fried Turantula for the meal tonight, it was not very nice but at least i can say i tried it lol
Killing fields and mine museam tomorrow - so a little bit of a somber day.
