I am trying to learn my lesson and not be so vague, so this is my gift to you. I'll just try to explain a day. I have started out as an extra set of eyes and arms at the Children's home. It is lovely everyday. I am also Teacher Megan for a classroom of nine first and second graders. I teach music and art everyday as the teacher, but as for the other subjects, I am more one-on-one with the students, tutoring them as they learn. They range in age, most of the kids that come to the home have no formal educational background so they start later in their lives. The kids in the community are welcome to come to the school also, but they're also starting fresh with no previous schooling. The school was started last year, so the first and second grade class is at the highest level. Third grade starts next year, and each new year the school will grow at that rate.
The path I take to the church, I also take to school. It is the same building. The pictures in the album School and also the most recent album are a lot of the students, but also of my surroundings. Animals, mangled homes, broken and trashed paths...all that is missing is scratch and sniff from your computer screen. Count yourselves blessed though; for that is not possible.
And as of now, entering into my fourth week, the opportunities are flowing in at an unstoppable rate. Last week was a hard seek for guidance...but see now that the promise has been kept. And I am now ready for action.
My heart is outside the gates. The street kids, the prostitutes, the homeless. The little I've seen has engraved pictures on my heart that cannot be ignored. Another girl is here from the States, Tessa. She has been given the same hearts desire as me, so naturally we have joined forces. And I have made great friends at a youth center in the community here that are willing and able and excited to join us in our ventures out into the streets. They are trustworthy, they know what we stand for and stand with us, they are Filipino, and they are boys. All of which adds up to miracles for us and hopefully comfort and ease in the souls for those of you at home.
We'll start on Thursday at a community that lives riverside...bringing food and fun and love. We're also being connected with communities in the mountains, communities in the dumps, and communities under bridges. As I said before, opportunities are flowing at an unstoppable rate. All we can do is go out and pursue whatever is to come...and catch up to destiny while we're on the run. Frizbees and jump ropes and hoola-hoops and hopscotch and bubbles will make for the laughs and friendships that are to form. Interpreters and truths and songs and understandings and hugs will make for the relationships that are to form. Returns and prayers and trusting and faithfulness will make for the revival.
Seeing life everywhere. Glory, glory, glory.
