The thought of going back to school during our trip was a little daunting. Studying, homework and working the old grey matter didn't really appeal. As it turned out we needn't of worried, coffee on arrival, shoes off in the classroom and a general laid back atmosphere meant the class was great fun. Tim's brain nearly exploded a couple of times as he tried to cope with 'masculino y feminino' and 'estar y ser' the two verbs for 'to be'. Briony on the other hand dealt with it all with ease, gaining her the nickname 'Teacher's Pet'.
Spending time with the locals led to some great experiences, a homemade Asado (bbq) where we got to practice our Spanish. We also spent an evening with Argentine families at the Carnaval closing party, with kids spraying rose water everywhere and listening to classic Argentinian live music.
The highlight of the week (especially for Tim) was a trip to see the local football team Newell's Old Boys, they were playing Olympia from Paraguay in the equivalent of the Champions League. The noise and atmosphere was unlike anything seen in Europe. Standing high in the packed terrace you good feel the floor shake, as 1000's of supporters jumped up and down in unison.
Bee's attempt to visit 'Los Banos' at half time was no mean feat. A 5 foot female in a crowd of 35,000 testosterone fuelled fans caused a few problems, this also saw the first squat toilets of the trip. Rosario won 3-1 so the vast majority of the fans left happy. We both felt we'd been very lucky to experience the passionate and focussed mentality of the supporters.
Bee's highlight of the week was finding a large 'Almacen de Celiaca's' totally dedicated to gluten free food. She got to indulge in gluten free pizza's and finally got to sample Argentinian empanadas. Tim also managed to locate some fresh chillies. All of which would be consumed during the longest bus ride of our lives (to date). As it turned out National Express has a lot to learn, with a Champagne reception, hot food and more comfortable seats than any aeroplane class. This meant the 19 hours sped by!
