This weekend I went to the Son of the Soil cultural festival just outside of Gabs. Earlier on in the week me and the rest of the volunteers bought some cultural fabric to wear! I made a wrap skirt and head wrap with mine which is brown and turquise! VERY beautiful!! We arrived at the festival at 11am long before anyone else came. (African timing!! haha) But it was so great bc we got to help out by setting up and washing dishes, preparing spinach, liver, and porridge!! I witnessed a goat being killed and skinned and prepared to be eaten later on!! Im still trying to get over those intence scenes in my head! I ate fat cakes (they taste like beaver tails!!0 and i tryed chicken neck!!!
The rest of the festival was filled with cultural dancing which was very impressive and singing and dancing!!! I managed to get quite an ugly burn because of that day! But it was sooooo worth it! it was such an amazing experience to be part of the day!! Everyone was so welcoming and pleased to see us all decked out in their cultural attire!
thanks to everyone for your awesum messages! i am really enjoying hearing from you!!
luv you all.....Meg:-)
