The Journey
Most importantly the food on first flight was good. We had Chicken Curry (very chinese) and left the flight feeling very full. The change in Dubai was very rushed as the first flight was an hour late. I still had time to admire the arabs 'checking security' which seemed rather ironic. I had hoped to get a photo but thought they might take offence.
The second flight was again an airbus but was slightly smaller and had less channels to choose from on the TV. We began with a Chicken Tikka sandwich and then tried to get some sleep. Have succeeded in very little sleep we had Tai green curry. (anyone would think we were going to India - I had thought we might be on the wrong flight)
After landing in Beijing and having avoided the rip-off merchants we got a proper taxi. It was not long before we almost crashed and it was then we made 'discovery 1' - The drivers in China are crazy and they love nothing better than using their horns.
We finally arrived safe in a quaint Hutong house. It appears to retain traditional features and style but also has western luxuries such as hot water and central heating. This makes up for the one inch gap down the edge of the door from our room to the courtyard. Apart from this all Staff are really friendly and speak good english.
We then had 15 hours sleep!
