We got back from Alicante, Spain this morning. Alicante was perfect for what I wanted this weekend, Jill and I had a blast. For this weekend, Jill and I wanted a place on the beach that we could relax, just the two of us without the group. It's been awesome traveling with so many great friends, but the break was much needed. Our flight to Alicante was delayed like an hour and a half, and we ended up getting to the hotel around 2:30 AM Friday morning. Our hotel was AMAZING. It was the Melia Alicante (http://www.meliaalicante.com/en/melia-alicante.html), and we were so lucky to get a really good deal online for it. We had a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean, and our hotel was right between the marina and beach. The beach itself was great, the weather was perfect and the water was the perfect temprature. The water was clear blue, you could see everything the whole time you were in. It was as pretty as Belize's water. The beach had a really cool boardwalk behind it, and Jill and I ate lunch and dinner at this restaurant on the beach, which was awesome. Alicante itself was really cool, awesome beaches and shops and market area but not too big or touristy at all. My spanish really came in handy, not many people spoke english at all which was actually a good thing I thought. There was a big castle on a mountain overlooking the city, which is supposedly one of the oldest in Europe (bronze age). Jill and I decided to take the hour plus hike up it after the elevator was closed, and when we finally reached the top.....of course it was closed! Still, the view of the city and surrounding area was amazing and worth it. At night, Jill and I just walked through the market on the main street and marina, which had some ridiculous yachts. Alicante aparently is known for their sangria, and Jill and I can vouch for this reputation, it was awesome at every restaurant that we went to. Overall, it was a perfect weekend with the slow pace, hotel, and crystal clear water. Hope everybody is doing good, good luck to Trent in his soccer tourney and Happy Birthday to Wendy, hope you have/had a good one depending on when and if you read this.
