Been a bit slack with the blog writing lately, so i'l try and catch up!
22nd Sept - So we left Udaipur and travelled by overnight bus to Ahmedabad, then we got a train to Mumbai, it was one of the worst journeys ever. 19 hours later we made it to Mumbai. Trying to get to our hostel was a nightmare (wouldn't expect anything less!). The first taxi driver apparently knew where it was......then decided that he didn't so chucked us out. Tried another taxi, he apparently knew where the hostel was.......5 mins later he had to stop to ask his mate. Next thing we know, our taxi was surrounded by 25 Indian guys all pointing in different directions!! Someone said to us once that Indian people will always try and help you even if it means telling you a lie!!
23rd Sept - Had a wander around Mumbai. Even though its a big city, its not as crazy as Delhi, and slightly more westernised, no one really stares at us which was good.
Today was the last day of the Ganesh festival, which lasts about 10 days and is in celebration of the elephant headed Ganesh. Everyone descends down to Chowpatty beach to submerge their statues in the sea, so as you can imagine it was pretty busy down there. As far as beaches go it wasn't brilliant, in fact it was pretty dirty, but had awesome views of the the Mumbai skyline.
It was so hot this afternoon so we went to the cinema to see an Indian film called Dabangg. We managed to figure out what was going on just about, it was a pretty violent film, followed by outbursts of singing and dancing....very random!!
24th Sept - Went Leopolds bar, made famous by the book Shantaram. Had a few cheeky beers, the first in a long time and well deserved i think!!
26th - Today Jess, Hannah and I made our debut appearance in a tv commerical advertising mouth freshner!! It was being filmed at the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai, which was lush. It took 14 hours to film, we got fed delicious food and even got paid a few quid for it to!! My outfit was slightly suspect though - charcoal coloured pin striped trouser and jacket along with very 80's shoulder pads and a yellow shirt.....very attractive!! The trousers were way to small but there was no way that i was going to risk my part in the commerical so i grinned and bared it all day!!!! It was such an awesome day.
A month in India has been tough at times but also awesome at the same time. Its gone really quickly and we've had lots of fun but now its time to move on....Thailand here we come!
