Hello!
Two blogs in one day from two places miles apart you say! Well yes, unfortunatly I've been a bit bad at keeping this thing updated but here's a re-newed effort.
Sydney is/was/is amazing! Probably my favourite city in the world. So much to see and do and such great places to relax in. From celebrity spotting to climbing the Harbour Bridge I did most of it. I visited the Royal Botanic Gardens which were very nice - the view back into the Harbour of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge is amazing! It's not a bad place to catch a celebrity either. Just sitting in a small cafe Russell Crowe walked in. He was buying lunch for his family and just out enjoying the day playing a bit of football with his kids. He's got fat though, and has a pony tail! lol, although I didn't tell him that!
Anway, onwards to the sightseeing. The Harbour Bridge climb is still great and a 'must do' when coming here (I think). It's a lot of fun and you get some great views out across the city and away to the Blue Mountains. Although I discovered maybe an even better view by going up the Sydney Tower. It's the highest tower in the Southern Hemisphere and as you'd expect from Sydney is great fun. Another great day out I had was walking along the cliff tops from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach. It takes you around and through some great Sydney beache suburbs (and across the beaches) and finishes up in Bondi where you can do anything from sit on the beach soaking up the atmosphere to bar hopping. As regards Bondi, I'm not convinced yet, I didn't spend enough time there, but the beach is very nice.
One thing I wanted to go back and do again was the Sydney Aquarium. It was awesome again. Platapus, sharks, seals, stingrays (booooo), tutles, nemo's make it the best aquarium ever. Continuing the animal theme I also visited Taraongo Zoo. If nothing else the view back across the harobur to the city from the boat was maybe the best one yet. The zoo itself was cool with some interesting animals like Asian elephants, tigers, giraffes and of course kangeroos, koalas, snakes, emu's etc.
Whilst all that sightseeing was ace, Darling Harbour was a great place to just chill and hang out and watch the world go by.
A worthwhile overnight trip that I did was going up to the Blue Mountains. The walk around Echo Point and past the 3 sisters, along the valley and up the scenic railway (52 degrees incline) was great. Katoomba itself was ok, not a whole lot happening but the scenery around it is spectacular and definatly worth a visit and I'm glad I went.
I also managed to catch a day's cricket at the SCG. The 3rd day of the second test between Australia and India. Sachin Tendulkar scored 150 so it was an entertaining day and good fun with some banter in the crowd.
So finally I come to New Years Eve, the reason I was in Sydney at this time of year. And it didn't disappoint. I was sat at 11.30am in the Botanical Gardens with an amzing view over the water of the Opera House just in front of the Harbour Bridge. The day was pretty fun chatting to a few people and then the fireworks were awesome. $4 million worth of fireworks were as you'd expect them to be. It was just a great setting.
