So having been to Kangaroo Island for 2 days i got back to my nice little hostel in Adelaide where they were holding their annual Christmas Parade. Its not what i call a Christmas parade, for a start it was too hot for santa to be walking the streets!
I really like Adelaide, its a nice small city and has a great centre and loads of entertainment and arts venues. I guess thats why they call South Australia the Festival State. After already going to the museum and art gallery i took the time to relax in the city and am looking forward to back there and spending some time in Glenelg region and at the beach.
I got the train to Alice Springs and was really suprised at the standard of the train. I had booked the cheapest type of seat which was called Red Day/Night seater which was almost like a reclining lounge chair. I didnt realised that it reclined untill the night time but i guess that was when i needed it most. It was almost horizontal and there was plenty of leg room. Much more comfy than an areoplane! And they even had showers on board and provided towles, i didnt use it though. The view form the train was amazing for the 1st hour but when you go to sleep looking at one landscape and wake up 7 hours later looking at the same thing, its boring! The food on board was cheap enough too. It was a long journey that took 25 hours so i was glad to get off, although when i arrive at Alice Springs it was 37 degrees.
My hostel in Alice is really nice, it has a pool which was a welcome releif from the heat on the day i arrived. The room is small but its nice enough. I spent the afternoon relaxing at the hostel and sorting some things out and then explored a bit the following day. Not that there is much to explore in the town. Im not keen on it. I felt that it was a bit run down and its a big place for the aboriginal people to be. But all they do it sit around spit on the floor. They also have a distinctive odour. I was also told that it wasnt safe for a me to walk alone so all in all, i felt a bit indimidated. Im looking forward to getting out of the town centre and seeing the sights. I think i will enjoy that more. Tonight i went to Bojangles for tea and had camel and stout pie with veg and chips, it just tasted like steak and ale pie but was really tasty.
But so far im still enjoying it, although i am getting tired from 2 months of non stop moving around so im looking forward to getting to Sydney and settling down for a while with a job and a place to call home for a while.
Still not able to upload my photos yet but hopefully i will be able to do it when i get back to Adelaide in 5 days.
