So I've been in the Land Down Under for just one month now and I've seen a lot, learnt a lot, developed a lot and walked a lot!! I've seen wild Kangaroos and Koala Bears (definitely one of the most memorable moments of my trip so far), climbed mountains, walked through rainforests, been to a lot of beaches and seen a lot of sunshine!! This Blog entry doesn't nearly explain how much I am enjoying it but provides an overview of my highlights...
After arriving in Sydney very jet lagged after a long flight I soon settled in and started exploring! I spent my first two weeks in Sydney (one of them working) and the other included visiting the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, including walking across it, visitng Manly beach and climbing the Blue Mountains. The highlight of my time in Sydney was encountering Wild Kangaroos at the Blue Mountains, an experience I can't quite explain!
I then travelled onto Canberra, the capital city, with a friend I have made, Ellen. We only spent one night in Canberra as other people had said there wasn't a lot to do there, but we wish we had spent a little longer as we really enjoyed our time there! We climbed Mount Ainslie and visited the War Memorial, an invaluable learning experience. We then got an overnight coach (nearly 9 hours) to Melbourne.
In Melbourne we stayed at a really great Guest House called St Arnaud in our own private room which was a great novelty, located in an area called South Yarra, just a 20 minute walk from the centre and 2 minuted fromthe Royal Botanic Gardens. We were very sad to leave that Guest House as it was so homely and friendly!
Whilst in Melbourne we really felt like we were on holiday and spent our time visiting St Kilda Beach, the famous Queen Victoria Market in the centre and walking to the Victoria Harbour along the river in the sunshine! We spent our spare time researching and arranging a Camper Van to hire for our forthcoming road trip!
After spending a week in Melbourne a Camper Van hired from a company called Wicked Campers was to become our home for the next 6 nights and is definitely the highlight of my trip so far! The views and beaches were maginifcent and unexplainable! We spent our time driving from town to town, taking in the views, lying on beaches, sleeping in the back of the Campervan in random car parks hoping to not get busted (haha!) and stoppping to see Koalas in trees on the side of the road! One amazing experience is all I can say!! The last two days of our road trip were spent driving up the Limestone Coast to Adelaide where myself and Ellen are staying.
Now currently in a hostel not far from the City Centre, getting ready to start WWOOFING (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) at a Vineyard on Monday.. basically we work in exhchange for our food and accommodation... another experience I can't wait for!
