So I'm now in Cairns after leaving Perth on Tuesday night! That's right I don't stay still very long. Ellen and I left sunny Darwin on the 27th June which seems like a lifetime ago now! We got in our hired Camper van and made tracks for the West Coast! And one thing is for sure, Western Australia is a place of Vastness... nothing is close together, it's quite unbelievable how for we travelled in a space of three weeks... approx 6,500kilometres! So yeah a lot of driving and taking in the views of nothingness, which were actually quite spectacular at times.
Our first stop from leaving Darwin was Litchfield National Park, a lot smaller than Kakadu, but just as, if not more, amazing! We swam in Buley Rock Hole and under a natural waterfall... something I will not forget being a water lover!
Swimming and washing our hair (yes we had no on board shower!) at Lake Argyle was the next highlight and I didn't get eaten by the resident Crocodiles... but didn't see any of them either which was a bit of a disappointment but at least I still have all my limbs!
We then made our way to Broome, and spent the day on Cable Beach and swimming in the Indian Ocean which was lovely and warm once in it! Cable Beach is spectacular... it really is what all beaches should be like... white sand and turqouise waters!
The 'Staircase to the Moon' was the next thing I need to tell you all about... (although you needed to be there to fully appreciate it). It only happens a few times a year when there is a very low tide and a full moon and the moon shining on the bottom of the sea creates a staircase effect!
I then attempted snorkelling for the first time ever! And I loved it! At first I will admit I kept falling over with the massive flippers on! But once I got into the water and got swimming I enjoyed every minute swimming amongst the fishes and looking at the coral at the bottom of the Indian Ocean! So cool and can't wait to do it again tomorrow in the Great Barrier Reef!!
The West Coast (the actualy coast) was amazing... the clfiff edges were ever changing and very intriguing to look at! There was the Natural Bridge, Island Rock and Grandstand cliff formations at Kalbarri that were very cool! I have also seen a few dolphins and whales swimming in the Indian Ocean, another new experience for me!
So while the West Coast was amazing, I am now trying to explore the East as much as possible on my ever decreasing budget!
