Maz & Flem On Their Travels
.........Signing on again from Sunny San Francisco.....here we go with our next instalment, hope you all enjoy it!!!!!!
San Francisco, come here if you fancy some serious hill walking, most of the streets are on a 45 degree angle and you will never see fog roll in the way it does in San Fran!!!! SOme great pictures of this in my photo's....
Let us see, we will take you on our tour of San Fran, in snippets........
Arrived last Saturday and walked from the train station to the Hotel with our back packs, note the mention of hills above!!!! Very proud of ourselves!!!! Hotel in an excellent location, just off Union Square.
Found Suzi Wong's very own cafe, Pat's Cafe......... see pics, you will get the joke suzi aka Paaaaaaaaaaat Butcher!!!!!!!
Biked the Golden Gate bridge on our 1st day, absolute scorcher!!! 8 miles start to finish and we met Helen and Andy from Wales on our journey over. The bridge was clear when we all left but within the hour the FOG had covered it, see pics...totally bizarre as both the bay and sausalito were clear, just a passage of fog down the middle. Got to Sausalito and once again the sun was shining, had some scran and a beer, got major sunburn as you will see!!! Again the fog rolled in over Sausalito, awesome sight!
Chinatown for dinner (you know we can never miss that one) with Helen and Andy and then to an Irish Bar for a few after dinner drinks!! As you can see we met Mr Miagi the 4 foot man, his favourite saying was "Take off your pantiesh" Sean Connery Style!!! Well funny.....
Ususal Hangover the next day, day of rest and takeaway's, reminded us of home!!!
Went to Ripleys Believe it or Not Museum, see pics, some seriously bizarre stuff in there, even got our photo taken (spitting double of us on a hangover day!!!).
Aunt Mary had advised us to get ourselves down to Fishermans Wharf for a bread bowl chowder, thanks for the tip the chowder was amazing. Also made sure we were nowhere near the sealions while eating the chowder, again another good tip!!!
Headed to Haight Ashbury one day, the site of the original hippy's, not much has changed, some really crazy shops down there......then off to Golden Gate Park where we hung out with the local residents - tramps, pirates and the odd hippy!!!!!!!! Def not Central Park!!!!
Alcatraz was awesome, wanted to go at night but only trip is on a Sunday and we will be off by then.......welcomed by the new residents of the island - sea gulls, there are thousands of them and they STINK!!! You can see why no-one has escaped from the island between the rocks, the sea and the crazy currents under the water nobody has made the escape and lived to tell the tale. Tour of the cellhouse where many famous inmates resided such as Al Capone and The Birdman of Alcatraz. The cells are tiny and the toilets even smaller, wouldnt like to spend even a night in solitary!!!
Last Supper had last night and really splashed out, T-Bone and Fillet Steak, yum!!!!! Really acting like backpackers are'nt we!!!! As you can see Greg is still enjoying his favourite tipple, the whicky, Dads would love the measures you get here, there is no measure just fill up the glass...................
From tomorrow we are into the unknown, we have no further hotels booked.
We have hired some new wheels, see pic. Well what do you expect on a budget!!!!!
Off to travel to Sacremento, Yosemite National Park, Death Valley (120 degrees!!!) to Las Vegas, LA and some of Highway 1...............hope the car holds up!!!!!
Update you all again in a week or so.................
Luv ya all Loadz
