The 4 days we had at home flew by in a blur of washing, unpacking, re-packing, visiting friends and Max's family and shopping. By Monday, we were exhausted and ready to get off for part 2 of our trip. The flight from Amsterdam to London was fine and we killed time at Heathrow airport walking around the shops, eating, making phone calls and boarded the plane on time. Our seats were ok and BA was a good airline with lots of good movie choices (for me) and food (for Max). I watched '17 Again' and 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past' - pure chick flicks but I didn't care as I wasn't paying :o) We managed to get some sleep before landing in Singapore on time.
I saw Bas waiting for us but it wasn't until about half an hour later when our bags joined us that we could leave the airport. Bas is a friend of mine from work and we were staying with him, his wife Wendy and their little boy Kris for our first night. We were a little jet lagged but after a lovely dinner on the terrace, Bas took us in to the city to see Singapore by night. There is something magical about a big city of sky scrapers all lit up that you just don't see during the day. It was great being with a 'local' as I have been before but couldn't remember much so we had a whistle stop of the centre around the CBD, Clarke Quay and The Esplanade before having a drink and a catch up before heading home.
Luckily for us we slept well and were ready for another day of sightseeing. Although it was very hot and we were still sleepy, it was Max's birthday and Wendy had put Miffy/Nijnte flags up to celebrate - nice touch. We got the bus in to the city and saw A LOT including Little India, Arab Street, Orchard Road, Raffles, back to the Esplanade and Clarke Quay. What was not so nice was seeing the aftermath of a road traffic accident. In any other country, they would have cordoned off the road and made sure people couldn't see but not here.Traffic was still allowed to flow freely as photographers took photos of the evidently dead person on the ground - there was blood everywhere!
We also visited the Fountain of Wealth, the largest fountain in the world and Merlion Park.We then headed back to the house, said our goodbyes and went across town to our hotel as a birthday treat. We weren't there long before jumping on the bus then the MRT to get to the Night Safari which is like a night zoo - we saw giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, hyenas and lots of other animals - it was a little disappointing as you couldn't see much and not all of them are really nocturnal animals so some were sleeping and we were tired so headed home and to the comfort of the hotel bed. It had been such a busy day!
The next day we were up soo early to get ready to get to the airport for our flight to Perth. The flight was nearly empty so we had lots of room on the 5 hour flight to sleep and spread out which was a bonus. I watched 'The Proposal' (chick flick number 3) which was slated by the critics but I loved before sleeping for most of the way and then landing in Perth, our home for the next few days.
