So, we travelled for about 18 hours and I have to say the journey was not fun. Auckland to Melbourne was ok but the 9 hour trip to Singapore was not for me....it seemed to bump ALL the time and made me feel a little sick for most of the journey :o(
I did however manage to watch 'Julia/Julie' and 'Slumdog Millionaire' and get a little bit of sleep before we landed in Singapore and then had an hour before getting back on yet another plane and heading to Kuala Lumpur. The flight was only 35 mins so we arrived early, got our luggage then made our way to a very busy Tune hotel. We got to our room, which was compact to say the least. The bed took up all the room and there was no room for your luggage. When you had a wee, your knees hit the wall and you were nearly in the shower however, the bed was super comfy and we had a great ceiling fan so we had a nice if short sleep. We had a little jet lag as there is a 5 hour difference between Malaysia and New Zealand so we woke up early, got up early and headed to KL city.
We were staying in the Rainforest Bed and Breakfast, which was lovely. Great room, good facilities and in the centre of the city so great location. We had a look around Jalan Bukit Bintang (the area I know from going there with work a lot) , hit the shops, and went for reflexology at my usual - 'Best Friends'. I have been there many many times before when over with work and each time, I am in pain but this time, it was delightful. No pain, no brain. Must be the fact I haven't worked for 8 months. I highly recommend it :o)
From there we went back to the B&B to relax and take advantage of the fact we have a TV, and then met Sam and Lorraine and went for a drink. They were our very kind couriers for the stuff we are leaving with my friend and colleague Ferdi (who was in Vancouver watching the Olympics so couldn't be with us). We had a nice chat about travels and work before saying our goodbyes and zonking out. Max was exhausted and didn't even want any dinner (he must have been tired) and I messed about on the internet (as it is free) and then had an early night too.
The next day we booked a city tour for the afternoon so we had a relaxed morning in the shopping malls and had a lovely Italian lunch at 'De Lucca' -highly recommend their buffet. We met the chef and complimented him on the menu. We then met Dollar our driver and Norma our guide and had a lovely guided afternoon visiting parts of KL I have never been to such as the National Palace, Merdeka (Independence) Square, The Lake Gardens, Masjid Negara etc and despite the heat, had a lovely and informative afternoon. We then went back to the hotel to relax and were enjoying watching TV when Max noticed our luggage floating past our bed. Our spare room was flooded as there was a huge storm outside...inches and inches of water so we managed to get our stuff out without things being too wet and moved rooms away from all the water. After this adventure, we went to Starhill and met my friend Mark for dinner at a Lebanese restaurant where we caught up about work and life in general before heading home for the night.
The next day, our last day in KL, we walked to the Petronas Towers to get tickets for the skybridge. After queuing, we had tickets for the afternoon so grabbed a taxi and headed to China Town where we had a look around Petaling Street market and then had a walk over to the Central Market. We then headed back to the towers and had a nice trip up to the skybridge. It was way too ordered though with a 3D video of Petronas and the 'wonderful' things this energy company does, colour coded passes, more and more queues, security scanning and a timed 5 minutes on the bridge to take photos.
From the skybridge we had a look round KLCC Suria shopping centre and bought a few things before heading back to the hotel. That evening, Lorraine came to pick us up and we went for dinner at a very local place, which was great. Good food and conversation followed by an early night.
