So it has been a few days since our last update and we are currently in the South West of France in a Basque village, enjoying the countryside, mountain villages...and the rain showers this evening :o( Oh well, I managed to cook a good Nasi under the shade of a tree, while Max watched from the dry van....I will get my own back! :op Since leaving Dinard, we have covered quite some kilometers. We started off by taking a trip to Cap Frehel on the Northern coast of Brittany which was just beautiful - emerald colour sea, blue cloudless skies and countryside covered in yellow flowers and purple heather - we had some lovely walks up there and took thousands of photos!
Then we headed further in to Brittany where we ended up in Concarneau, which I haven't been to since I was 17 and on a college trip with Pat Taylor! It was glorious weather so we walked the coast and ended up eating a very good pizza (each) the size of a dustbin lid, on a bench overlooking the harbour, no napkins or pizza cutter - quite the travellers we looked, and every other frenchie saying 'bon appetit' as they passed - we must have been a funny sight! Then we headed to the West Coast to see and surf some waves. We stayed in Carcans for a couple of days, Max had some surf practice and I became attractive - to a) weird men on the beach b) mosquitos and any other biting insect and c) even the snakes in the game of snakes and ladders we had to play in the van when it rained (thanks Polly and Dave - it passed an evening!)
After Carcans and some beach time, we headed further south and stayed for a few days in Pyla sur Mer, which is famous for its huge sand dune -very impressive! We stayed at a campsite with 'live entertainment' every evening and aqua aerobics and dance practice at midday and 2pm every day so it was a little more lively than we are used to and we even had a drink and a little dance on Salsa night, when I got Max dancing to the sounds of the Gypsy Kings- very good fun! Max has also been improving on his French since the 'monsieur' incident some days ago. He has perfected the way you say 'au revoir' in a convincing way and unlike the way they teach you in the Tricolor books when we were 7 years old. I am a proud girlfriend :o)The weather in Pyla was amazing so we spent most of the time on the beach relaxing and me being afraid of the HUGE waves and strong current that the Atlantic Ocean has to offer - I'm used to the Mediterrean which only laps the shore and doesn't batter it to death! We also had an eventful trip up the dune - I was scared, started to hyperventiltate and had a cry when I reached the top! Vertigo is not a nice thing especially when children aged 5 are running up it and running down it...and that includes Max - see the video we have posted. So we are now in Biarritz for more sand and surfing.....and then we head across the border to Espana. Sorry there are no new photos - uploading via the internet here is a nightmare....they will come!
