So after we said goodbye to the beautiful west coast and arrived in New York we checked into our hotel ready to start our trek the next morning. Honestly Trek America was such a let-down. We spent our first day driving across state to Buffalo where we stayed in the worst hostel ever. After the lovely hotels with contiki this was a bit of a culture shock. But we got to have some buffalo wings from the original buffalo house and get some sleep before an early start the next day. Then it was Niagara falls time! This was really amazing. Another one of those breath-taking moments I'll never forget. Queuing for the maid of the mist boat was a bloody chore and Max was getting so stressed with all the Chinese people who had no idea what a queue was, but an hour or so later we managed to get on the boat and get absolutely soaked!! Then we crossed the bridge to Canada (and looked at the falls some more) before heading to Toronto.
Toronto was quite lovely, we were met with another gross hostel but a trip up the CN tower and the fanciest dinner and we got over it. I think that was by far the best dinner date ever. Was such an amazing experience, the views really were incredible. Spent the afternoon shopping much to Max's joy and spent almost all my Canadian dollars in Aldo and Zara - Ooops! Next it was Montreal, Max was in his element here speaking French and it really was an experience just being there. Montreal is such a beautiful city, So individual. I discovered how unfit I was climbing Mount Royal but it was worth it for the views over the city. That evening we went to a blind restaurant, something I wouldn't do again but such an amazing experience. Eating in the dark was such hard work (especially dinning with Max who decided to eat topless)!! Still so much fun though!!
After a few days in Montreal it was time to head back into America and we made our way to Stowe in Vermont. This was such a lovely place and totally relaxed. Spent two nights in a really quaint house in Stowe which I totally loved! It was so American!!! Boston was our next stop! I am sure I say this about everywhere we went but it was so lovely!! I had enough of hostels by then so checked us into the 5* Boston Park Plaza hotel - Best decision ever. Overlooking Boston Park it was perfect. Our first stop was the cheers bar (I was so excited) only to find out there were two and everyone else was at the other one.. So a mad rush across town we met everyone for dinner! The next day we explored Boston (a lot of walking) in heat wave weather! We wandered around Faneuil Hall and china town before getting some food for a picnic and heading to the park. The loveliest park you'll ever find in a city (Central park included), we spent hours lazing around people watching and eating our picnic before we went on a swan boat and made our way back to the hotel. Tonight was our last night of Trek and we went to a lovely seafood restaurant… Then back to our hotel before we hit the road back to New York.
After saying goodbye to everyone it was time for us to head to New York for our last few days in America before we had to head home. I've always wanted to live in New York (thanks to Friends and SATC) and now I know why! It's like London on speed. It's crazy and massive and I can totally see why it's the city that never sleeps. We did so much in the few days we were there. Empire State building, Statue of liberty, Wall Street, World Trade Centre memorial, Central park, 5th Avenue shopping, Yankees game, exploring Soho, Times Square, Chicago on Broadway, shopping in Macy's, hours in Michael Kors and so much more. It was such a fast paced few days but I couldn't think of a better way to end a trip of a life time.
Then it was time to bid farewell to America and head home. Looking back at it now, we were so lucky to have had the opportunity to have this amazing experience and I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather have done it with. It was the perfect way for our friendship to develop into so much more. I think it's safe to say we both have the travel bug and now it's time to save save save and plan our next adventure. That's all for now… Katie xx
